I've seen a few posts in support of the new LG combo drives they have at local Wal-Mart for about $90. (
www.wal-mart.com ) They carry the 4120 model (8X DVD, 12X8X32 CDRW)drives--the newer 4320 models (16x DVD, 32X10X40) should come in soon.
You can find the 4120 for @$70 and the 4320 for about $120 online (
