Maybe, you need to use the codes in reverse order, BGR instead of RGB? If you're using e.g. (hexadecimal) code 123456, try 563412 instead.

tar (as in Tape ARchiver) does not compress files, it only packs them together with some headers. gzip, xz, bzip2 etc., on the other hand, compress files but only one at a time. That's why Unix stuff...

I recommend UPX: it can decompress executables...

I recommend UPX: it can decompress executables compressed with itself. (I'm an EXE size maniac, too. :)) Also, malware scanners have built-in UPX decompressors so their job becomes easier.
