Strike Commander: Old timers, pls help

Hi

I dug out my 3.5" diskettes for strike commander a couple of days ago (yes, the Origin F-16 sim, following Wing Commander 1+2) and re-activated an old DOS-PC.

Now I'm stuck in the Alaska...

Postal, if the game doesn't work with an Audigy 2, then I guess the soundcard isn't the reason. Before you get a new one, try setting the hardware acceleration to minimum (Run dxdiag, rider "sound")....

Yup, you're right

Joe, I just installed an Audigy from one of my older PCs - no more crashes.

It's not a hoodlum problem, but a Rockstar bug. They detect the AC97 as a SB EAX card. Happens with the original CD.

I solved the problem - at least for me.

The hoodlum crack on this site works (it's referenced by grumpy in a posting above).

I used an older one. Looking at the file date, I guess hoodlum...

It's not "just you" who has the problem.

When I start the game, it crashes to reboot just when the intro begins.

I suspect my onboard AC 97 sound chip, since it gave me similar problems in GTA...

As usual, the cracked version is shorter than the original one:
The original is 10.889.623 Bytes long,
the noCD has 9.736.192...

P.S.: Scanned the mohpa.exe on another PC with McAfee - no virus found. File seems okay, although I don't trust McAfee. I'm gonna try it.

My virus scanner (F-Prot) reports probability of an unknown virus in mohpa.exe, the noCD-exe by RELOADED, obtained via GameCopyWorld.

This could just be due to some suspicious - but harmless -...
