Star Wars Empire at War Help!!
Hello,
I have spent several frustrating days trying to figure this out, and I am stuck. I realize this is an old game, and it has long since been figured out, but I can't get it. Let me start by saying that yes, I have read the forum rules and FAQs and I own a legal copy of the game, which works fine when I put the dvd in. It has been patched to V1.05. I had the no-cd working just fine. I had downloaded DTlite 4.356 and the EAW mini image from gamecopyworld. I mounted the image and then installed and activated YASU 1.07. Presto, everything worked as promised. It worked every time, and it worked persistently for a couple of weeks. Then I had unrelated problems with my computer and uninstalled a lot of software, including DTlite. When I solved those other problems and reinstalled DTlite, I got the newest version, 4.454, along with the newest version of YASU, version 1.6_9040. I tried to use those as before, but DTlite wouldn't even start, I kept getting kernel debugging issues, which I traced to SPDT problems. Using the forums supported by Daemon tools, I fixed my registry issues and was able to start DTlite again. Still, when I tried to play the game, it gave the error:"Please insert the original disc instead of a backup(4002)" So I uninstalled everything, and went back to the older versions of DTlite and YASU, but I got the same result. I then downloaded Alcohol120% and tried to create an image using the tutorial in the FAQ section. I never got the read errors that were expected, but I stopped the image after about 30%. No dice. I then tried a maxi-image, which also didn't work. It's entirely possible I am not making an image correctly, but what frustrates me is that the image on gamecopyworld was working fine for me, and now it doesn't. Can anyone give any clue as to what I have changed or what I need to do to make this work? Thanks in advance. |
I don't think newer releases of Daemon Tools would require YASU. You might want to force downgrading SPDT by manually uninstalling it and reinstalling an older release of it. Or install a significantly older release of Daemon Tools, that around the release of the mini/maxe images on GCW.
But why don't you simply use a no-CD EXE instead?! |
Wow, do I feel stupid. What a huge amount of time I wasted. Maybe I learned something in the process, but I'm not sure what. The exe route worked like a champ. I feel like I tried that once before, but perhaps from a different site and with poor results. The files from gamecopyworld work great. Thanks for the tip. I'm glad to be up and running again. I didn't even try your other suggestions about spdt and DTlite. I just uninstalled it for the moment and it's all gravy.
