Empires Dawn of the Modern World crashes

Just bought this classic game for the friends kid and installed all 3 patches, but then I am trying to load it it says that game needed to be closed. This kind of error comes up

"AppName: empires_dmw.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: low-level engine.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000572ea"

I am not specialist so no idea what else to do... please help.

Recently I installed ATI 2400 HD PRO - AGP version graphic card

more info helps.. operating system for example...

1. does this happen when using the original exe and original disk?
2. have you tried running the executable in compatability mode?
