Guitar hero 3 retail crashes xbox 360
 

my Guitar hero 3 retail copy crashes my xbox 360. the game will boot but stay at a black screen every time. all my other retail games + backup games work perfect. anybody heard of this problem before? It also happens if I unplug the harddrive.

maybe you got a defective disc my gh3 has never crashed and my 360 is not modded

hmm its something with my xbox 360; i tried the game on my friends 360 and it work fine. tried my friends guitar hero 3 retail game on my 360 and it boots up to a black screen. Also made a backup copy of my friends guitar hero 3 and same black screen(Thought it could be protection like Gears of war retail, where it dont work on old hack firmware). guitar hero 2 retail seems to work fine. Since theres no HDD/MU connected, could it be my dashboard is corrupted?

i think if the dashboard was screwed then none of your games would boot or your xbox would not turn on maybe it can detect hacked fw try reverting back to the stock fw and see if it boots if it does then you know it can spot the hacked fw

If you have your HDD plugged in, can you unplug it and then try to boot to the game? If that works, try deleting all saves for that game along with any downloadable content (for that game).

reverted my dvd drive back to stock firmware. still dont boot. I changed my dvd keys to my friend's xbox 360 keys and game booted fine so its not the dvd drive.
I got it to work on my xbox by doing the console reset codes posted on llamma's website.

"Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error.

1. With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one)
2. While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console
3. Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.
4. During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally"

btw: i still dont know why it will only affect this game.

i remember hearing there was an update to make the 360 work with the wireless guitars a couple months before the game came out and then there was an update for guitar hero itself because during the star power tutorials the notes were normal notes not star power notes

I would try and exchange it or try it in a different machine to see if the same thing happens

I was having the same problem too which suggest so many people getting in similar situation means the disc cant be corrupted, but in my case unplugging the HDD did help and the problem did not come back. Hope this fixed it forever.
