OldiesREQ: The Curse of Monkey Island noCD

I was wondering if anyone still remember this great game. I found it from my locker the past day and it still rocks!

Problem is I have to use cd's to play it. I was wondering if someone still had a working nocd for it somewhere could you please share it ? I searched to net for hours but found nada :(

I could always make an image of it though but I rather not would like to install any virtual cd/dvd players on my comp.

Thanks :)

If you can't find a crack for it anywhere then read the forum FAQ on how to request one (for old games).

Use www.scummvm.org

it works better on newer systems and you dont need the cd.

You can make it play from Hard Drive by copying the RESOURCE folder from both CD's into the game folder as well as the COMI*.* files from both CD's (overwrite any files when asked) then do a simple reg edit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LucasArts Entertainment Company\Curse of Monkey Island\v1.0

find the text 'Source Path' in the right window of Regedit and double click it then type in .\ (dot and a backslash) then press enter.

Now when you run the game it should play from the hard drive!

Or, once again - Use ScummVM. That's really the best way to play COMI on a modern machine. I even run a port of it on my Xbox.

It runs fine natively or under SCUMM, choose whichever way you play it :)

Thanks. That's all I needed to know <3

If that fails then try ScummVM as suggested!

Problem is that Monkey Island 3 has different voicefiles on both cds which are named the same if I remember correctly.

ScummVM is better because of better Hardware compatibility.

Yes, you rename the files from the CD's to get it all running. But hey, each to their own! :-)

BarryB 07-09-2007 09:40

Well, I did a hex compare on files that had the same name and they were identical on both CD's?

Which files are they if you can remember?

Joe Forster/STA 07-09-2007 11:27

There was a similar problem with Outlaws, a great Western shooter by Lucasarts. And, no, the two files with the same name on the two CD's were not the same. Solution: I wrote a packer/unpacker for the file format and merged the two files into one. Now it runs without either CD. :)

I've still got Outlaws, and a crack by PARADIGM where you rename the 2nd file so it loads past level 5!
