Bioshock

anyone know what protection it has? i won't be getting it for a few weeks

BarryB 20-08-2007 14:52

Probably STEAM + Activation?

kosmiq 20-08-2007 22:33

Well the Retail version will probably feature Securom v7.xx and I know it has an activation. It contacts 2kgames server and autopatches/decrypts (probably) before you can play the game. So anyone who managed to get the PC-version form a store pre-release-date (ohio anyone...) can't activate it anyway.

Steam version will of course feature Steam "protection" and possibly 2k activation server..

all the online authentication check does it make sure you have a legit dvd in the drive. you do not enter your key until afterwards when there is no longer a requirement for internet. I checked my timestamps after it authenticated and the only file that was edited was the exe.
Edit:
Looks as if the Direct2Drive version will use ActiveMark with online activation.

Besides activation: Demo exe indicates SecuROM 7.34.0007

caki 21-08-2007 17:14

Everything, including Steam and Direct2Drive builds, are new Securom versions.
The only one I am not sure about is Direct2Drive. But I'd bet a 20 that its using Securom, since other games on it have had Securom in the past.

WardoggOne 22-08-2007 11:21

djcasey 22-08-2007 11:30

is it working ? i'm affraid its fake, way to fast

TippeX 22-08-2007 12:03

course its fake
1. it came from a 2 post poster
2. no team have released the game
3. its still securom protected

so some idiot just took the demo exe, and 'made' it a crack.. total bullshit

Morpheus85 22-08-2007 13:26

not a demo exe.demo exe is 15,4 MB this exe is 15,5 MB

quake_ger 22-08-2007 15:39

yea, i can confirm its not the demo.exe

oep etc. is different :p

/quke

out_sider 22-08-2007 16:22

was anyone able to play it?

TippeX 22-08-2007 22:59

still protected no or just some crap dump?

Scanning -> c:\temp\bioshock.exe
File Type : Exe, Size : 16302080 (0F8C000h) Byte(s)
-> Suspicious MZ Header..
[!] SecuROM Detected - Version 07.34.0007
- Scan Took : 2.859 Seconds

agreed entrypoint doesnt look like securom, i'd be a little bit wary of this one...
ep code is mangled..

DABhand 23-08-2007 01:53

Could be demo.exe padded and had its PE header changed.

TippeX 23-08-2007 04:01

or retail exe, either way pid shows prot as securom.... and im not going to try it, entrypoint code is not 'usual'.. not even for securom exe
