your doggy installer came from the razor iso, didnīt it?

I don't believe there's a problem with the original (asked a friend) and a look at some famous nfo-sites....;) No need to say more I guess

Hm... Maybe offtopic... But as Halo 2 is a Vista-only game by "software" as it does not use dx10 yet... Is it than against the rules/eula to release a win xp crack (if there will be one at all).

Just asking because of curiosity and for maybe future titles as I am not interested in halo 2. Halo 1 also sucked in my opinion. So I wonīt give the second shot a try^^

Maybe something to add to the rules? Nevertheless we saw some Win-98-fixes for games which should only support 2k/XP-Systems... Canīt remember exactly... Doom 3 maybe? Or was it some other unreal-engined game!?

Similarly to copy protection, a cheap trick - like, yes, in DOOM 3 - forcing you to upgrade your operating system is the publisher's stupidity or money-hunger and their customers should raise their voice against these. Which is exactly why sites like GCW exist! :D So I don't think a non-Vista patch for Halo 2 would be against the site/forum rules... (Not crack in the usual sense as it's not copy protected; see http://fileforums.com/showthread.php...956#post341956).

(And, yes, I didn't like the first Halo either... ;))

The situation with Doom 3 was very different. This Halo 2 uses different DirectX layer not available on XP (no matter it doesn't actually use any DirectX 10 hardvare functions), and making the modified executable using WinXP DX9 layer will be extremely difficult, if not impossibile.

wolfsrain 12-06-2007 06:04

There are some people working on making the Vista only games available on XP. Unfortunately, I don't think that those files will be free, unless you order the games through their site(which also seems a bit suspicious)
Check this site:http://www.fallingleafsystems.com/compatibility/

kosmiq 12-06-2007 06:39

Well fallingleafsystems are the same guys that have started to port DX10 to WinXP. If they succeed they can look forward to have me as a customer once it's done.

From my own experiments (having dual boot OS of xp & vista) the only thing that trips up the game seems to be the xbox-live feature which from what i've read is an essential component of the game (I guess so PC owners can trounce those console lamers in a multiplayer game)

chron 16-06-2007 05:14

no this is not true ;)

There are calls to functions that are not available under xp.

Those calls are in the vista ntdll.dll, advapi32.dll and kernel32.dll

I have same problem as the author - pls explain how to fix it? I have tried for 2 days until 3pm and got completely tired. The thing is that i really want it work thou I even doubt i would play all the game throu - but i want to fix it.

Aurochs 11-07-2007 04:02

Well, really bad ISO-release from Razor1911.
Can I fix it with some small patch - not to download another release in full?
