Homeworld 2 crack broken on Vista?
Hello, every time I try to run Homeworld 2 on Vista(Home Premium) with the 1.1 update and crack the game refuses to start and gives me a Data execution prevention error, but the game works fine with the 1.0 cracked and with an original disc patched or not, does anyone know of a workaround besides digging out the CD every time I want to play?

turn off dep for it then...
see if that works.. control panel -> system -> advanced -> performance (click settings) -> Data Execution Prevention click add, select the exe file... click ok... run the game... you might require a reboot (on mine i didnt)... |
I bet its that stupid UAC that MS decided would be a good laugh.
It prevents you from installing or using any apps that need to use of a HD to store data. Turning it off stops this and allows you to use apps again. Look under User Accounts in the control panel and you can turn off from there. Useless crappy feature :P |
Well, I have UAC turned off already and I already had DEP set to only on for essential services, which is why I'm confused about it giving me the error in the first place.

u sure its a dep error and not a crash?
if dep is disabled, check the crash window of the game if it says the error is 0xC0000005 its most likely dep issue if not, its probably a crash (bad crack maybe) if the original exe works, then i think its fair to imagine its not dep related, and is indeed a bad crack.... |
