Alpha Prime [CRACK TEST REPORT]

Alpha Prime, Polish version is protected by StarForce. Since I hate that crap, I always use cracks. i used the crack for the Russian version with both 1.0 and 1.01 PL versions - runs fine, I can even remove all protect.*** files drom gamedir.

BarryB 25-05-2007 08:33

English version Demo was unprotected, game is now available in English since yesterday so wonder what copy protection is?

Demo was quite good, very Doom 3!!

WaltonSimons 25-05-2007 08:40

Well, honestly, I don't know. Buy and see for yourself, that's my suggestion. I'm not gonna - I don't even need English version when I have a version in my native language available.

A7xtitan 25-05-2007 22:04

does the game have multiplayer?, i'll buy it if it has multiplayer.

WaltonSimons 26-05-2007 03:07

No, Alpha Prime does not have any multiplayer. This is as a matter of fact, a good thing. There are plenty of games that are devoted to multiplayer, UT2004, PlanetSide, Counter-Strike Source, Quake III just to name a few. Games such as Quake IV, Doom III, Prey or Painkiller - although SP-oriented, do support multiplayer, but are nowhere as popular, as MP-dedicated games. So, when you create a game, it's a good idea to focus on either SP or MP, not include both - concentrating on one particular "layer" of the game makes it real good at the point.

Alpha Prime is a GOOD single-player shooter and let it remain that way :)

BarryB 26-05-2007 11:58

Nah, don't think I'll buy it in protest that Poland got it first :p

WaltonSimons 26-05-2007 12:57

- in Poland the release date was December 01, 2006.
- the Czech version got relled December 04, 2006.
- the Russian version got out December 21, 2006.
- the English version got released through Sprocket IDEA May 01, 2007. Exclusively.

Turns out we're first after all.

BarryB 26-05-2007 18:33

Play.com had the English retail on 24th May! Don't want to buy it in case it has Starforce for protection like your Polish version :(

WaltonSimons 27-05-2007 13:25

What's the difference? The protection, whether StarForce or SafeDisc (rus) is poorly implemented, so 100% chances that the crack works. The setup program does not install SF drivers, just DON'T run the game, copy the crack first. Then remove the "protect" files and you're clean. You might use the starforce cleaners just to make sure.

The game - although SP only - is worth all the hassle. Even though the intro is crappy, like a B-class movie or worse. The game really is worth it.

Now listen up. All this starforce boycotting crap will not produce significant results. All goes down to waiting for cracks.

A crack gets released? Buy the game, no matter the protection - if it's worth it. A cracked prot does nothing to your PC... :)

BarryB 28-05-2007 13:44

I guess the fact that most games currently coming out use Securom/Tages suggests boycotting Starforce *IS* producing significant results!

Can't remember that last major title that used Starforce?

WaltonSimons 30-05-2007 05:05

Well, I guess Dreamfall might be the case. European releases use SF.

I don't see why I'm supposed to let a good game pass by, just because I don't like SF. I see it this way: the publisher won't remove SF from the game, so I'm punishing myself for their choice - as I'm losing the opportunity to play the game.

If I refused to buy Alpha Prime just because of this SF-boycott crap, I'd punish myself - as the game is truly a great gem!

To me, this sounds somewhat threatening :/

Maybe SF is coming back :x
Dunno whether that makes devs/publishers think about taking SF as their protection, but I think most of them still dislike it because it was heavily boycotted some time ago (especially version 3)

Joe Forster/STA 01-06-2007 05:29

But it seems that now they (the SF guys) see that end-user-friendliness of their drivers should be a much, much higher priority than in previous releases. That's good!

BarryB 01-06-2007 15:55

There was a patch for Dreamfall that removed the Copy Protection, think it fixed issues with one of the Nvidia 7 series cards.
