i am currently trying to get soul reaver 1 to work on my winxp system
i seem to be having issues could someone perhaps figure out a way to get it working as i really need it working. |
what's ur problem with the game?
|
I found a solution some time ago but cannot remember the website, so i'll post it along with the files needed.
Megaupload link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7EMOSLJ0 Included in the rar: * The official Soul Reaver 1.2 patch * The unofficial patch for XP Running Soul Reaver on Windows XP Installation Process: 1. Insert the Soul Reaver CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive and install the game normally. 2. Once the game is installed, upgrade it with the Official Soul Reaver version 1.2 patch. 3. Unzip the Unofficial Soul Reaver patch into your Soul Reaver installation folder (generally c:\Program Files\Eidos Interactive\Soul Reaver, unless you chose to put it somewhere else during the install). When Windows asks if you want to overwrite kain2.exe, choose Yes. 4. In the installation folder, right-click on the new Kain2.exe icon and choose Send To, then Desktop (create shortcut). 5. Find the Shortcut to kain2.exe icon on your desktop. Right-click on it and choose Properties. In the Properties window, rename it to Soul Reaver XP (or the other name of your choice). Then click on the Compatibility tab, and select the Run this program in compatibility mode for: checkbox. In the drop-down list, select Windows 98 / Me. Then click OK. 6. If you are running Windows 2000 and do not have a Compatibility tab, go to your Start menu and select Run. Enter this in the text box: regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll then press Enter. If you are running an un-service-packed version of Windows 2000, this may not work. 7. If you wish, copy the new shortcut to your Start Menu. 8. Double-click the Soul Reaver XP icon, and play normally. Notes: * If the game has issues with the sound, or running slowly, make sure that Compatibility Mode (98 / Me) is turned on in the properties for the Soul Reaver XP shortcut. * If the FMVs don't play, and/or Raziel runs around in circles, you probably have a gamepad with analogue sticks connected to your PC. This game interprets one of the sticks as a throttle. You can either disconnect the gamepad and play with the keyboard, or use a utility like JoyToKey to make Soul Reaver think your gamepad is the keyboard. * The main menu runs a bit slowly if you turn the resolution way up, but the rest of the game should play just fine. * If you have a graphics card with an Nvidia chip, you may experience problems if you use Nvidia's drivers after version 61.77. On Windows Vista, the built-in drivers allow the game to be played, but NVidia's Forceware drivers may not. |
i just get a black screen
im sure itts something to do with the video drivers i have read all about it i even read what Am Shagar has said word for word before and it didnt work either it totally sux im currently in the middle of making a legacy of kain conversion but the way its going im not going to be able too if i cant get soul reaver to work them its pointless since everyone uses winxp these days |
I have long time without playing the game but when I did had the blackscreen problem you mentioned the xp patch did do nothing for I had to reset my nvidia videodrivers to a pretty old version 56.xx I think was the version I really can't remember the gamepad just gav me BSOd so I had to disconnect it. But now I don't know if the game could work again like I said I have like 2 years without playing it and I upgraded my videocard I no longer had the nvidia now I have an ati, changed also my soundcard and other parts and now I'm on Vista so I don't know

shit
i use a radeon 9800xt 256mb agp i cant go all the way back to a 2000 driver all my games wont run on that i get pissed off with the companies they upgrade drivers but they dont upgrade them so they run anything. is there a way to emulate the drivers to make soul reaver think im using a 2000 driver instead of a 2007 driver |
The authors of the game software should've been careful enough to not use special features (bugs, exploits, you name it) that were present in those versions of the driver but were not assured to remain there in later versions, too.

is it possible for someone to make a patch that'll make soul reaver compatible with todays drivers
like put the old driver stuff back into the new ones |
your best bet would be to get the psx game and use epsxe to play the game
|
i contacted ati
maybe they can do something |
Sunbeam mate that was a very bad suggestion.
