softice alternative

Ok, Softice does not work with my xp anymore and i it look very complicated to make it work propely on xp. Also, i am too poor to buy a new version of it.

Anyone know a good alternative that breakpoint memory "on write" beside ollydbg?

thank in advance all...

syser, windbg, theres LOTS of debuggers out there... google
as for softice working on xp, you need the fixed os.dat from the compuware site, if you bought it you know where to get the updates...

thanx

My version of softice is an ooold one :p

Thanx for those suggestions.. i will try them soon.

my 2.6 version still works on xp sp2... is yours older?

DABhand 09-03-2007 13:05

Ive got Driver Studio 3.2 (still havent updated it for a while might do so tonight)

TippeX 09-03-2007 19:25

never liked softice 3.x - all that 'local' hook crap, and having to edit up configs to make it work like the old 2.6 :), and now visual softice - its crap :)
in this case i definately recommend using 'old' softice

maybe it is something in the config i must change. but i think it is a 16 bits version. I got it for 40$ at the flea marker :p

TippeX 10-03-2007 05:43

oh heh 16 bit version, forget it :) thats TOO old

alternative

I have a lot of old stuffs like that that i keep i dont know why.. countless boxes gathering dusts like old compilators and stuff like that that i got a flea market or garage sales...

my favorite was Masterkey that dump all you code and debug information in a file. If there is anything like this for xp that dump in a file would be great. i can't figure out why Ollydbg dosen't work with protected shits against debuging and i can't figure out where i can find the data seg.....

Anyway, thanx all for answring my questions. that's very nice, i dont what to be too much a noob...

TippeX 10-03-2007 09:53

well olly doesnt work with anti debug cos it wasn't designed for it, you have to handle the anti debugging yourself using olly
data segment is usually in the .data section (oddly enough), or in a section marked as read write (and executable sometimes), just process the dll
dumping code is simple, use olly, or use something like lordpe, and the data segment is just the beginning :)

We dont support warez mate. Buying a copy from your local flea market is very very naughty.

Joe Forster/STA 11-03-2007 07:12

A warez version for $40 (whatever dollar: US, Canadian, Australian) would be way too expensive so it can be safely assumed that it's a genuine copy.

TippeX 11-03-2007 09:08

yup and flea market can also be buying legit old software etc, like at a car boot sale / jumble sale, theres nothing to indicate there that its warezed...

Nay.. It is an original CD but with no box and no book knowing that one day i might want to debug stuff for windows. So recently, i wanted to do trainer (with game with DMA) and it then that i saw it was a 16bits/dos versions....

Still, i got good deals there like my first book on win32api "charles petzol's programming for Windows 95" for 25$ it better than the 80$ brand new; Yep! The beginning of my journey to the Dark side.

There use to be some folks over there selling illegals musical album; even the cover was poorly printed and guess what, there were peoples actually buying from theme. Anyway, the GRC there did a big cleanup recently.:p

Again, i am sorry for my bad english.
