Crescendo (D.O.) NO-CD crack
 

Well, I just thought that people who are having problems running their backup copies of Crescendo that has some nasty copy protection (SETTEC Alpha ROM + Slovak Protector) would be pleased to know that there’s a solution: it is possible to use executable from Japanese version of the game with US version of the game as the two versions are based on the exact same script engine. The executable unlike executable from US version doesn’t have any copy protection at all. There is some bad news, though: as Japanese version executable was built to handle Japanese text it works with fixed-width font instead of proportional spaced one and what’s even worse, there is no code in the executable for performing word wrapping and that makes English text look pretty untidy. I hacked the executable to force it work with proportional spaced fonts and perform word wrapping and made a patch that makes text appearing on the screen look just like when playing the game with original US executable. If anybody here is interested in the patch, let me know.

settec isn't that nasty, last time i looked it was svkp+cdcheck before oep... hardly rocket science compared to the other prots.

Just finished removing the protection. Well, I have to say it was rather easy indeed. I remember hearing some blood-chilling stories about how good SVKP is at hiding OEP, but finding all those stolen bytes wasn’t that hard.

Oh, and cdcheck wasn’t before OEP, it’s was before SVKP started to decrypt file sections =).

I guess there's no need in my patch now. I will upload cracked EXE as soon as I remove in-game cdcheck.
