New user, needs help

I am trying to get Industry giant 2 to play on my computer. I am having copy protection issues. The games manufacturer is no help as I've tried repeatedly to resolve this issue with them.
My brother recommended that I go to "gamecopyworld.com" and download a file to stop the copyprotection.
I have:
1. installed the game
2. installed the add-on
3. downloaded and installed the patch. (but it is version 2.2)
4. i've downloaded the correct archived file to my desktop.

Now I'm stuck. The site says to replace two files within the game with the ones I just downloaded, but I don't know how to do this. The file I downloaded to my desktop is unable to be "explored" and I cannot open it.
I can get into the game files and have found (I think) the files to remove but I don't know how to get the downloaded file into the game. Windows asks what program I want to open the file with, and I have no idea. Maybe it's a compressed file? what do I do with it?
The file on my desktop is "idx-ig2a21"
Could anyone help instruct me how to get this file to replace the two from the game?

Read the forum FAQ on how to install cracks. Also, get an archiver software - preferably WinRAR - for unpacking compressed archives.

Thanks Joe, but now a new problem

Joe:
Thanks for helping a newbie, I installed Winrar and it works fine. I replaced the two files I was supposed to and now I have a new issue.
When I open IG2 it now asks for a CD key and since the original game didn't have one I'm stuck.
The CD key looks wierd, where all the text should be are just "#" characters, but no matter what I enter for this "key" it wont let me pass this point.
There is no CD key that I'm aware of and it's certainly not on the original game CD's or manual.

Joe thanks again, I made a mistake. There IS a cd-key on the back of the manual. My bad! So far the game is running fine... I'm so glad there are sites like these to help with issues that the game manufacturer won't or cannot help with. Someone else said it right when they said you could only get help with the popular games.

Thanks again
Shell
