Basically, the only thing you can do is to buy a new card. If the card can't handle the game, it's less than likely that you can force it to. Sorry.

Contact the publisher. Also, try DOWNgrading your video card drivers.

(@Muyfa666: This is an old game, from 2001! ;))

Unfortunately AVP was around when Cirrus Logic was still making GFX cards and Creative.

The gold Version no doubt will not get updated, so your newer card will not be recognised by it. I suggest if you can change a setting in a file, for it to use software mode rendering (your machine is powerful enough to do that and have it run smooth)

Send me an E-mail reminder and I'll dig out AvP Gold this weekend and see if it (still) works on my current PC (Athlon 3200+, Geforce 6600GT, Windows XP).

Maybe you will look at forums later, and you remember about this :).
Ah, and compatibilty modes didn't give nothing

Joe Forster/STA 12-10-2006 13:18

Believe me, I won't remember; I forget not very important tasks within minutes... ;)

kosmiq 13-10-2006 13:28

The problem with the game is that the game is oh so old and with all newer cards there will one of two possible errors:
the above mentioned error from the creator
you get picture and the game starts but graphics are f'ed.

I've tried it, under Windows XP; you can start a mission but you will see nothing at all, other than the lights on the walls. I can't reboot to Windows 98 right now but, perhaps, it should work properly there... Will keep you informed!

You get either that problem or the error the thread starter gets. Either way, there doesn't seem to be any other fix than to play with very old drivers or older O/S.

The solution is quite easy - you have to rename the game executable from avp.exe to avpg.exe (case insensitive). After that, you shouldn't have any problems running it.

DABhand 13-10-2006 20:47

say what?

Sulio 13-10-2006 21:15

Apparently, on some systems the game engine gets confused and thinks it's running a vanilla AvP and causes problems. When you rename the executable the engine recognizes that it's AvP gold and the problems go away.

I should know, it took me days to find about this issue and get my copy of AvP to work ;). Also tested the fix by unistalling and reinstalling the game a couple of times - it worked everytime.

Damn I wish I had the Gold version so I could test that fix!
Sounds like a bizarre method but if it works all well and good. ;)
