Do the originals load ok?? Did you get any read errors when making the backups. Also, what modchip do you have??

I have the same problem

Hi,
I don't know what I may have done wrong if anything, so let me post. I have a v7 ps2 with a xeno ps modchip (This modchip is supposed to autodetect and load ps1 or ps2). I have modded several ps2's over the past year, and I have just now tried to make some ps1 backups.

I bought silent hill 1, and resident evil off of ebay, and paid a pretty price too! I have tried several programs to make a backup of them. I have tried alcohol 120%, game cloner 1.25, nero, 5star game copy, as well as game cloner-newest version, and all copies I made either barely work, or not at all. The backups that do work take forever to load. (I got NO error messages when making any of the backups.)

The screen stays black for about 3 minutes, then pops up with the ps logo. IF it passes the ps logo, it loads and runs fine. I have (with res evil 1) issues with this game. I can get it to load and run only on very rare occasions. I am brainfried! I fought it all day today, trying different programs, and wound up with a stack of coasters! I got it to load, and played it for about an hour. I didn't have a ps1 mem card, so I shut it off. I restarted it about 10 minutes later, and it wouldn't load. I fought it all day trying and couldn't get it to load again. (My daughters ps2 with a Duo3 gt modchip does the same with these psx backups.)

My silent hill 1 coasters, well, I got 1 copy to load and it ran with choppy video. the other 5 or 6 I burned don't load. This ps2 will play ALL ps2 backups fine. The console plays originals fine, just not ps1 backups. Can anyone here please either tell me a foolproof copy program, or let me know if I overlooked something obvious? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mike.

Try burning on different media at a slower speed.

tattmann 16-11-2006 12:15

thanks for replying

I was going to try black memorex cd's next, however my cdrom seems to only want to burn at a minimum of 16x. Nothing slower is listed. If necessary I will try a different pc. Will reply in a day or two with the results, and thanks again for reading.

Actually black cd-r's are a bad choice for backups. Try Verbatim data life plus

tattmann 16-11-2006 21:30

okay, cool. I wanted to try a medium as close to the original black ps1 cd's as possible. I had a thought that maybe the cd laser may have been refracting too much and not reading a silver cd well enough. Anyway, I tried some black ones. Alcohol was able to be dropped to 8x burning speed on my home pc. This made a difference! It loaded up my backup just as fast as an original disc. However, it stops at the ps logo, and doesn't pass it. I will see if I can find the verbatims you mentioned, and I will post results then. One question here, do you know of a program that will allow me to drop the burn speed down to 4x? All my burning programs stop at either 8x, or 16x as the slowest speed. Thanks, Mike.

See the Blank media quality guide at DigitialFAQ.com.

got it fixed

I got out an older cd burner put it in my pc. and tried again. I used the black memorex cd's, and alcohol 120%. With my old burner, I was able to drop the write speed back down to 2x. Voila! Working perfect backups. Thanks for your input, Mike.

Omg

i too am having the same problem as tattmann. i have a modded v.7 with the DMS4 Pro SE Modchip and have found a few Psx games that will load but stops at the psx logo screen. Im goning to go out and try to find a old CD-R burner that will burn at 1x or 2x and try reburning the games at the lowest speed using Taiyo Yuden 52X CD-R Media Silver Thermal Lacquer. ill let everyone know how it turns out. :D

games: That dont work for me:

Suidoken 2
armey sarge's hero 1
diablo
gameshark/code breaker
harvest moon
tales of destiny 2 cd3 ( cd1 and cd2 work fine)

Exactly the same problem here. I just can't get some PSX games past the PS logo, namely Bomberman World, ISS Pro Evolution (1), Dino Crisis 2, Resident Evil & Resident Evil 2 (all versions: Director's Cut, Dual Shock. PAL/NTSC, whatever...). My PS2 v7 is modded with Ripper2, and it plays everything else that I've tried without any troubles.

I've already wasted 30+ blank CDs. Any luck finding the fix in request...?

Try upgrading the firmware on the chip.

If I remember rightly, Ripper 2 is essentially a DMS3 clone anyway...

P.S. This is in the wrong section (should have started a new topic in the PS2 boards).
