DVD doesn't seem to run exe-files

any cd or dvd discs i insert wont run the exe files but any other files ie mp3 or zip files will work ok
this is on both original and copied discs
my virus checker finds nothing on my system ???
help appreciated

This has nothing to do with game backups and I am presuming you are talking about game discs in General? Therefore I have moved your post to the 'General Gaming' Forum.

Wrong section.

But sounds like you have Auto Insert Notification disabled.

EDIT: They have changed it

Open my Computer, right click the drive goto properties, and find the options in there.

help

its not the auto insert

seems like something on the computer is stopping exe files registering on cd or dvd roms this also includes original discs

i can copy any files from drive ok
but when i try to copy an exe file i get the message
(only part of a read process memory or write process memory request was completed)

also the exe file dont look like they should they just look like a basic exe file with no icon

hmm that sounds a little suspicious, virus scan your machine.. copying files does not use read/write processmemory..

possible reason :

1. virus / trojan
2. shit anti virus program
3. misconfigured system (doubtful as the extension for .exe doesnt 'act' upon drive letters...)

Yeah with that new info he given us (which he could have done from start) I would say a replicator virus.

The virus will replicate itself onto any executable files you run, copy, or cut and paste.

Since it cant onto files from media, you will get errors.

TippeX 10-10-2006 04:06

yup, though he said his virus scanner found nothing, so either its a rare virus or his scanner is crap..

try using an online scanner ->

try booting in safemode, see if the same thing happens...

really though it does sound like a virus.. and 'not really caring' about is a recipe for disaster m8...

Maybe the DVD drive is failing is near to end it's useful life. Have you tried another drive and see if the problem still ocurrs
