mod chip question
allright heres some back story, i have 2 ps2's a v4 and v5. my v5 has a messiah 2 in it and the laser died and i sent it for repairs 2 months ago and they guy keeps stiffing me sayin hes gonna mail it etc, basically hes jackin my ps2. now im instrested in modding my v4, to my knowledge there isnt a no solder chip that doesnt require swap magic right? if theres not i was thinking of installing a duo 3 GT, anyone think thats a good chip? i dont want to spend alot of money modding this one (the duo 3 chip is like $28) i dotn want to spend 50 bucks, thanks for any feedback
|
...Then i'd go for the Duo 3 :)
|
ok duo 3 it is, and am i correct in saying that the v4 ps2 will only read dvd-r and not +r?

There are a few v4's that will read dvd+r but even so would stick to the -r media. |
another thing i was wondering about. i was thinking of trading in my v4 for a slim ps2, now should i mod a slim ps2 or just use the swap trick, seems like the swap magic would be easier with the flip top cant really cause harm. seems like theres more risks modding a slim ps2 than a fat one. all the chips i see for the slim come with another chip for the laser?

You really dont want to start messing around with all that TOC swapping nonsense...
Newer slim PS2s prove to be fairly reliable units these days - just make sure you install a good quality modchip such as the Matrix Infinity or one of the Crystal line of chips along with the Comsoft V4 laser chip. (steer clear of the Diode/Neo fixes etc). Do that, and you'll have no problems... LUFCfan :) |
allright thanks, i was looking on one website where they include the neo laser fix with the matrix chip, i'll be sure to avoid anything neo

i was doing some research and is it true that only v12 slim ps2's need the laser fix chip and the others dont?
