viruson boot block
Hi guys i have an amd 2400 mhz with 1 gig of ram, i recently used the recovery disk to set the computer back to factory settings, but whwn it starts to set it back it says its got a virus on the boot block. Dont know how that happend as i use norton. Is there anyway to remove it ? i have it as a back up secondary machine and its also connected to the internet but although i use norton firewall/virus checker, spyware and a registry mechanic the computer has a habit of locking up quite a few times.Any help would be appreciated
Thanks, Peter:( |
Get F-Prot for DOS (free!) from http://www.f-prot.com/download/home_user/index.html , put it onto a DOS boot disk, boot onto it and remove the virus. (If it's an NTFS partition, try the very recent FreeDOS 1.0, http://www.freedos.org; as far as I remember, it has NTFS drivers, too.)
As for Norton/Symantec Antivirus, welcome to the club... ;) Time to swap for NOD32 or some other reliable virus/malware scanner! |
Thanks

boot block virus
Hi again,
I downloaded the f-prot and installed it, checked it but it still does not show up the boot virus, i can reset the computer back to factory setting using the restart disk but it still says a virus is on the boot block, so far nothing ive tried can find it or remove it. Is there a boot block virus remover i can buy thanks, Peter |
Isn't this "virus on the boot block" an error message displayed in a text mode screen (i.e. not in graphical mode)? Isn't it possible that you left the virus protection feature of the BIOS (which is worth nothing at all!) enabled?

Is this Anti-Virus software whining about a Floppy in the drive?
