SC:Chaos Theory - Sound Loop Problem
Game installed and applied patch 1.05.using the fixed exe to play without the dvd on.The problem is that after several minutes on gameplay the sound loops fast forward.it is like SC:Looney Tunes Theory..Having all the updated drivers for graphic card and sound card the problem still continues.Tried everything!Reduced sound hardware accelaration,opened SC engine settings and reduced maximum sound channels and voices..Still nothing!problem exists and without fixed exe and playing from the original dvd.Anyone?appreciate your help here!System specs:athlon 2400+,geforce ti 4200,512Mb ram under XP.

You´re playin´ SC:CT with a TI4200?! Brave guy!
Sorry, can´t help with your problem, but I´m wondering that you´re playing SC:CT with such "slow" hardware... |
Is your sound card a Realtek HD?
|
I bet you'll have the same problems without a crack, too! Your PC doesn't seem to meet the minimum system requirements. Have you contacted the publisher with this problem?

I have via vinyl deck audio AC'97.and updated.the game runs like hell!1024*768,2X anisotropic and antialising,high textures,high detail,triple buffering.only shadows are at the medium setting.even Prey runs at high detail without frame loss.that's because it does not support directx 9.0c and forces games to run in directx 8.0.of course with the loss of all special lighting effecs and all..anyway.i replied a little late because of this:when the problem occured again i alt-tabbed the game and realized that the sound problem continued on the desktop.e.g. mp3's looping fast forward.tried from control panel to resolve it without any success.this problem is only on SC:Chaos Theory.other games have stable sound.i checked that the game supports ac'97 on-board sound.

Well,changed in ini file the audio device from DARE(initially that is what ubi has) to vinyl audio ac'97.problem remains.i'm thinking making changes to DARE.ini.the only that remains is the cache size of DS3D and the output frequency..cache size is 2097152.maybe lowering it?

I truly believe you should buy a decent sound card: onboard sound cards are not only of low quality, they are also not supported (properly) by many game...
|
Two ways to solve it:1) UseSound=false or 2) turn off speakers.i'm really pissed off.now i'll try the most stupid 'solution':run in compatiblity mode.

Tried that Hagar the first time the problem occured.i set now NB Audible Voices to 0 from 64.now i hear only the characters talking and no enviromental sounds.think there's a conflict with these sounds.i'll try the 8 setting.
|
Ok!sound problem solved!set the NB Audible Voices in DARE.ini to 8 and now it's all fine!have checked and 16 with no success.i'll try settings from 9-15 just to experiment but sound is alright now.maybe the problem had to do with the number of sounds playing the same time.strange.on-board sound cards are full duplex.anyway,hope this thread will help anyone who will experience the same sound loop problem in the game.

@fearwhatnow
Ive changed the title of your thread to: "SC:Chaos Theory - Sound Loop Problem" It will make it easier for those with a similiar problem. ;) |
Update:Finally discovered that game's sound issues are caused by a 2-speaker configuration!checked that on 4 systems with 2 speakers(all high-end) and the sound corrupts when Soundcard configuration is set to 2 speakers.even if you have 2 speakers you can set the 4 speaker configuration to solve the sound loop.so just leave DARE.ini on default and move to 4 speaker config or to 6.seems that the game is coded enhanced(if this is right to tell) for surround systems.if anyone have an update on that i'll be pleased to be informed.
