how many hard drives can you have?
i have three physical hard drives for o/s + storage, along with my 1 cd-rom. can i buy ribbons that allow more than 2 hard drive's/cd rom's per ribbon (my motherboard only has 1 primary and 1 secondary slot)?
thanks! newb |
Each IDE controller can only have 2 units on it. Look in your motherboard manual or system specs if you have any SATA controller, that way you can add more hdd's.
If not, you can get a controller card that adds more ports. |
thanks so much!

u, cant use that kind of cables, i dindt even seen one of those, thats the standard, even if u connect more drives, they wont be recognized, buy a controller, or a mobo that has both ATA and SATA or whatever.

Just for curiosity, where did u find that kind of cables , do u have a picture or a link, or something?
srr fo my bad eng |
or use usb / firewire adaptors to add extra drives, relatively limitless (esp with firewire) although you do have a limitation of 32 drive letters, really only 26 though.. then you have to access them as their name like \\.\hdd0\blah\blah etc.. which gets a bit tedious

What the hell you talking about btw? |
I think he's talking about IDE cables that has a total of 5 IDE connectors (1 for motherboard and 4 for HDD's). The exist but only 2 can be used so I haven't found out the meaning of them yet... :p

Raid Controller !!
What u need is a raid controller, but itīs difficult to install it. I have one @ home but didnīt manage it to work on my computer. With all that bios stuff I would recommend to go to your computer dealer installing it. You can install 4more hard discs or 4 cd-rom-drives. Try it.
