Need help with some dumb questions.

I have been using swap magic and hdadvance 2.0 to play my backups for a few years. This morning i accidentally broke my disc drive with the stupid slider tool for swap magic. So i decided to cut my losses and buy a new premod ps2. A DMS4 Pro chip installed in a slimline. With that i have a couple of questions im curious about having only done softmods thus far.

1.Can you backup a dvd9 game onto a dvd5 disc using dvdshrink like you would any dvd movie?

2.For 2 disc games are there any problems with switching the discs if theyre backups?

3.Are there any games that have copy protection that restrict you from making a backup of your game? If so can they be bipassed using software like dvd43 or Anydvd?

4.Do any games have ingame errors when playing from a backup on the dms4 chip, for example: On the HDAdvance software when running Kingdom Hearts II from the HDD whenever you go to change worlds the game freezes, or Suikoden IV where if you try to load a game on HDAdvance it freezes?

5.Has anyone ever found any game that could not be played as a backup on the DMS4 chip system or could not be backed up at all?

1. No. They're for DVD Video not PS2 games. You'll need a ripkit for that specific game. Though the best thing to do is just just buy a +DL burner and some decent (Verbatim) +DL Media.

2. Not that I'm aware of...

3. Not that I'm aware of... But even if there were, you couldn't use those programs as they are for DVD Video not PS2 games...

4. Not that i'm aware of...

5. Not that I'm aware of...

Though tbh, the Matrix Infinity or Crystal 1.1 are both better chips IMO and both are cheaper... For a quality install in the US, contact Spedmetal through PM or see his site at www.norcalmods.com

Well thats good info thanks. I havent burned a ps2 game in quite some time. I think i used either Alchohol 120% or DVD Decryptor. Which do you prefer? And did anyone have any luck burning Gran Turismo 4 as that is DVD9.

If you only knew how many people we have warned of this :(

You can make a direct DL backup of GT4, patch it with the Toxic patcher and play on most modded consoles.

Hehe yea i kinda saw it coming. I went to put a game in using the swap magic trick and the drawer stuck and i played it with it for a while then i pushed on the slider so hard i just heard a loud snap. I was unsurprised by this, i calmly unhooked the system, took it to my xbox workbench, took it apart, saw the broken clip slider thingy, COULDVE repaired it by ordering the part, but it just wasnt worth it to keep using this crappy soft mod. So i sold the broken ps2 to ebgames for 25 bills and order a new premodded DMS4 Pro system. Ive modded countless Xboxes and Ps1's and PS2 represents that much of a pain in the ass to me that i didnt even want to try.

Also why do you say "most" modded consoles? It will work on my DMS4 Pro chip if i patch it with Toxic right?

You should have no problems with the DMS4 chip. I was refering to some of the "older" modchips :).
