Game screen upside down
I successfully installed a game on my daughters laptop, however when I ran the game it was upside down on the screen !!! Anybody ever come across this and how do I rectify it ???
Thanks in advance. |
turn the laptop right side up :P

(Wrong forum, moved. Weird title, fixed.) Is this the only game that is displayed upside down? If so, contact the game publisher; if not, contact the manufacturer of the laptop (can't this be a configuration setting in the video driver?!).

@mooster: Please tell us which game you have installed to the laptop!

It was an old car racing game, street car challenge.

Is there a Matrox gfx card in the laptop or have you installed any codec packs lately?
I know there was a part of some codec pack made only for Matrox cards. Because Matrox without the extra codec would show things upside down and non-matrox cards with the codec would show things upside down... :p |

This reminds me of FF7 years ago and the indigo codec was needed to play the movies the right way. |
The graphics card is a Integrated Intel 900 GMA with up to 128MB of shared video memory. I also installed the ace mega codecs pack so I guess it could have installed the matrox codec. I will only see my daughter at the weekend so I'll have a look then. Thanks for your help guys, it is much appreciated.

Well while taking a look at the ace mega codecs pack it seems to be a lot of matrox codecs included in it.
A good advice would be to generally stay away from codec packs and go for FFDShow instead (much better IMO and less cluttering). Then it may need some extra's depending on videoformats etc. Like quicktime and realplayer formats, in that case there are great alternatives like RealAlternative and QuicktimeAlternative. All free and very useful IMO. Might be worth checking out.. :) Hope you can solve the problem! |
Thank you kosmiq, I will take your advice and uninstall the ace codec pack and get FFDShow. Will report back with the results !!!

ffdshow causes weird problems, too: upside down picture and/or picture consisting of only green stripes as some kind of weird static! Use GSpot to determine the codecs of the AVI file you're having problems playing. Tell us and we'll recommend you a specific codec, instead of ffdshow.

Yes, I gave up using FFDShow - because of those problems - completely about two or three years ago... ;)
