Dreamfall The Longest Journey 2

Must say I am very disappointed by this sequel.I was expecting a point & click type adventure. As it was I found the controls to be very exasperating to use no matter whether I use keyboard & mouse(the worst) or one of the other methods.Eventually gave up & removed the game.

Is the Journey Over?!!!

Sadly, I find myself agreeing with that sentiment emreggub. When TLJ initially came out some years ago, I was a little skeptical of it since I had been of the opinion that adventure gaming was all but dead. But when I played the original TLJ I was pleasantly surprised.

Afterwards, I played Syberia and Syberia II, but they didn't quite live up to my personal liking for TLJ. I waited anxiously for the sequel to be released, and as soon as my local store had it, I rushed to get my copy.

Let me say that one game that I have never played (because I tried it and did not LIKE it) was the Myst series. I just didn't like the way the game was structured and the way the controls operated. TLJ2 (Dreamfall) I find to be more like Myst than anything else that I can think of. My copy is now back on the shelf. Thankfully I know a worker at the store who agreed to let me return it even tho it had been opened - he trusted that I had removed it from my system. Of COURSE I removed that piece of garbage from my system! I would rather have 5 or 6 GB of Barney the Dinosaur videos! And THAT says something!!!

One other reason for my extreme disappointment in this game is that my mother-in-law was ALSO waiting anxiously for this title to be released. She can only play certain types of games since she has been paralyzed from a stroke for a number of years now and only has the use of one hand. Therefore, games which require keyboard/mouse combination for control are out of the question for her. And so this game is TOTALLY USELESS to her!!!

I guess my biggest beef with Aspyr is that they didn't let people KNOW that the format of the game had been changed to such an extent. It's just lucky that I had connections that would allow me to return the game! I pity all those souls out there who paid out their hard-earned money for this game expecting a sequel to the original.

Guess I'll just have to wait for Syberia III to come out, and hope that IT doesn't get massacred like TLJ2!

Oh yeah, another thing that kinda soured me against this game. When I initially tried to install it (intending to install it on a partition with about 40 GB of space free) I received the message that installation could not continue because there was not enough free space for the game! Now, this was BEFORE the installer had let me select where I wanted the game to be installed! And to add insult to injury, the installer would NOT allow me to exit!!! I kept clicking to "Cancel" but the d****d install error message would NOT go away! I was thinking that I would have to reboot the computer or power off and restart when I thought of using Windows TaskManager to kill the setup file.

Contacting Aspyr netted me the information that the installer had a bug in it (why do they expect people to pay $50 for a game with a buggy installer???) and that I would need about 8 GB of free space on Drive C in order to install the game, and even then I would probably have to modify the desktop icon to point to the correct location for the executable!!!

They did send me a set of instructions on modifying the registry (with appropriate warnings that I could do irreversible damage to my computer by doing this!!!) so that I could get the game to install WITHOUT having to have any free space on Drive C. I followed their instructions and DID manage to get the game installed (on my F: partition), only to be severely let down and disappointed when I finally ran the game.

To say that this is one of the worst f***-ups in the history of computer gaming is putting it mildly! :(
