Burning too fast!

Ok, many of my ps1 backup games play ok in a PS2, but when played in a ps1 they skip like crazy and sometimes not even load. Even the PS2 struggles from time to time.

I found the problem, im burning too fast. I have been burning them at 8x....... problem is my burner dosent seem to allow me to burn any slower! I tried Nero and Alcohol 120%.... none of them allowed me to set it below 8x.

I have a Lite-On SOHW 1673S, any suggestions? This is driving me insane.

Try different CD-R.

Try cdrwin. The demo limits you to 1x burning. Note: A few recorder models do not support 1x recording speed, so the demos will not work with them (the error "Unable to set writing speed" will appear).

I tried a different brand, same results, these are Taiyo Yudens so im pretty sure they are as good a brand as you can get. CDRwin coudlent even detect my burner, it is an old program after all, and this is a dvd burner.

8x is max and good speed for burning psx games. i always burining at this speed and had no probs. maybe you psx laser is old :/

Providing i get no read errors I can burn PSX games at 48x with no problems. In the past with older burners and media the slower speeds produced better results but thats not true today. Todays burners and media seem to do better burned at higher speeds. Try burning a backup at 24x, see what happens.

I cant comment on the TY CD-R's, I know the DVD-r's are excellent.

I tried setting Nero to estimate the recommended maximum speed..... it recommended I use 198.1x speed....... then burned at 48x. The 48x backup performed even worse.

Use Verbatims, they have always been the best for burning PSX.
Update your CDRWin if it doesn't detect your burner.
I always burned PSX at 1x using my old TEAC SCSI burner, but I can let that do its own thing as it doesn't interrupt anything else I do on PC.

Actually, I had one slightly old verbatim disk left, I tried burning the same thing on it at 8x, it was just as bad as the Taiyo Yuden burn at 8x.

Have you tried Alcohol or Clone cd? I always got mixed results with Nero.

Cyber Akuma 24-03-2006 08:46

Not CloneCD but I tried Alcohol 120%, same result.

Its really hard to say man. We're talking about two different consoles here. Naturally there going to load games a little differently. Its also not unusual for different consoles to react differently to the same media. As a example some consoles may love Sony CD-r's while others refuse to load them. No two lasers are adjusted exactly the same. If you've tried different media and software with the same result then maybe the PSX's laser is getting weak  its hard to say. I really dont think its the burner or the 8x speed.

Sorry Cyber, I know this isnt much help :( .

You right. I have dc and psx and they love sony cdr but on old lasres in my consoles (they dead; first about year ago and second about half of year ago) they wont boot on psx/extremly hard to boot on dc. If your psx have probs with reading old scratched cdr's (best is to observe this on movies) then you must exchange laser :( Dont be sad :) its my fourth laser in psx and third in dc :D
