Oblivion works fine with DT 4.03

I simply made an Image using default settings in Alcohol's Image Making Wizard, mounted it in DT 4.03 (with no special options selected) and Oblivion works just fine without the DVD in the drive.

ProtectionID v5.0c gives me:

I'm thinking about buying the game. How is it? I'm hard on cash, so I don't want to waste any :(

bierhuettl 20-03-2006 17:40

will buy it because
1. this is REALLY REALLY REALLY worth it
2. i want that 120 page guide to the world included in the coll. ed. - i think it *MIGHT* help playing the game ;)

It Rocks!!

I just played some levels Graphics-9/10 Gameplay-9/10 Story-9/10 there are tons of tweaks to try. It is running so well on my medium PC. I was able to copy the dvd with NERO. I now use that copy in my dvd burner.

Nymosis 20-03-2006 19:45

Hey zellar you said ur running Oblivion on medium on ur PC, what are u computer specs? b/c I'm wondering how it will run on mine.

robo989 20-03-2006 20:29

Sorry don't mean to troll your thread...

Just curious on what protection exactly the game does use. Surely aray is just saying that because it hasn't been updated?

I haven't used a protection scanner for ages, but remembered a couple years back that all they seemed to do was keep a database of games and their respective protections without actually scanning anything other than the obvious .TMP files or whatnot...

cheers, :)

true, this method was used by clony xxl wich is outdated anyway.
protection id and aray are scanning the exe for special byte patterns.
i.e. the oep of safedisc and starforce is generic. so u just need to cmp bytes at oep, check iat, pe-header infos and some more stuff to get a working detection...

Where did you buy the game? Official release-date is tomorrow? It isn't released by the publisher yet.

P.S. I think that emoticon says it all.

EB Games is known for releasing games to the public early.

I walked into the store as they were finishing up making all of their pre-order calls..and happened to pick up one the last unspoken for copies.

So if your  implied that I obtained the game through illegal channels, think again

I don't think the game HAS any copy protection...honestly, I think you just have to have a copy in the drive, or an image mounted.

Using MiR to make a mini-image of the image I created didn't work though :(

noscript 21-03-2006 05:12

The conclusion of all these Posts is: Oblivion has a simple CD Check which checks the contents of a file on the DVD/CD

TippeX 21-03-2006 05:27

i beg to differ, an alcohol 120% image was released on the newsgroups, the nfo stated the game was protected with securom 7, so there is a LOT of conflicting reports going on at the minute about the game

So i think we will have to wait and see when someone buys it and analyses the exe / tries to make an image etc (and/or sends the exe to someone who knows how to detect protected executables etc.).... someone reliable that is :)

I can't believe that a game like this, which took a couple of years for programming comes without a copy-protection!!!

But i will see by myself this weekend, when my legally bought copy of that game arrives. ;)

Perhaps, this is an early game from the new generation of games without (significant) copy protection...?

(Damn, woke up again!)
