Strange CD Protection, please help me figure it out..

Hey,

I got an audio cd someone else burned and when I insert the CD into my computer, Windows Media Player says one of the following:
  • Windows Media Player cannot play the CD
  • "Windows Media Player encountered an error when reading the CD drive in digital mode..

When I pull up the disc information in nero, it says the disc has 1 session, 18 tracks, and that Session 1 is 1,282,816 MB large!

The CD plays fine in a normal cd player however, but not in the computer at all. ClonyXXL wasn't able to identify anything about the CD as far as I could tell...

What could this be?

Are you the owner of the original disc?

AnyDVD can remove the protection from audio cds.Try it.Of course this is only if you are the owner of the original because if this is not the case it is illegal to try to copy it.

Yes, this is an original, and I bought it. It was burned by my friend's band, so thats as original as it can get. I'm just trying to get the music onto my computer so I can put the CD away and lower the risk of scratching it. I have so many scrached CDs...

And no I do not plan on illegally distributing the music. Thank you.

Mmh, maybe Isobuster or eac are able to rip the tracks 1 by 1 ?

Or you could try Easy CD-DA Extractor. Not sure if it will do it for you but it does handle everything I throw at it and there is a free trial available. ;)
