Is SafeDisk4 Blocker Safe to Use?
I haven't been able to find out alot about this program, just that it pulls out reg entries before you play your game, then you click enter and it restores them. Has anyone had problems with it? I'm just nervous because I did install it and I'm okay, but what happens if you forget to hit the enter button? Does anyone know exactly what reg entries it's pulling out? Thanks for any info. Also, it doesn't restore the entry for uninstalling Daemon Tools in Add/Remove Programs and I think that's what has me nervous, like what else is it not restoring?

I think it makes a backup of the entries so that you can restore them even if something goes wrong. However, there are plenty other similar tools; see the FAQ.

I see the backup.reg file now. It's in my game's TSBin folder. I feel better :D So, technically, if I forget to press enter, I can just double click that file and it should restore?
|
I would first have a look at its contents, though. (Or, if you're not a technical guy, copy & paste it here...)
|
The thing is, the file disappears when you are not playing the game. It's not hidden, it's just gone. I think what the program is doing is, you get your backup while playing, then after you restore, it just self deletes the file or moves it someplace I can't find. I can try copying the file once I load the game again.

@Lemora
CureROM (since v1.3) and Securom_Loader both don't hide/delete reg entries, and both work with Safedisc, too. |
This is what SD4 Blocker does, I copied the reg file and opened it with notepad:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 0] "DMAEnabled"=dword:00000001 "Driver"="atapi" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 0\Scsi Bus 0] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 0\Scsi Bus 0\Initiator Id 255] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 0\Scsi Bus 0\Target Id 0] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 0\Scsi Bus 0\Target Id 0\Logical Unit Id 0] "Identifier"="TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B" "Type"="CdRomPeripheral" "DeviceName"="CdRom0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 1] "DMAEnabled"=dword:00000001 "Driver"="atapi" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 1\Scsi Bus 0] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 1\Scsi Bus 0\Initiator Id 255] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 1\Scsi Bus 0\Target Id 0] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 1\Scsi Bus 0\Target Id 0\Logical Unit Id 0] "Identifier"="WDC WD2500JD-22HBB0" "Type"="DiskPeripheral" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 2] "DMAEnabled"=dword:00000000 "Driver"="atapi" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 3] "Interrupt"=dword:00000009 "IOAddress"=dword:0000ffd0 "Driver"="dtscsi" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 3\Scsi Bus 0] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 3\Scsi Bus 0\Initiator Id 15] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 3\Scsi Bus 0\Target Id 0] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 3\Scsi Bus 0\Target Id 0\Logical Unit Id 0] "Identifier"="VT9056I RRJ915J 1.0 " "Type"="CdRomPeripheral" "InquiryData"=hex:05,80,02,02,20,00,00,10,56,54,39 ,30,35,36,49,20,52,52,4a,39,\ 31,35,4a,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,31,2e,30,20 So, it's taking these out of the reg when you boot the game, and when you press restore, it puts them back. I am not thrilled with these entries, but I backed the file up to disc and I'm a system restore backup addict, so hopefully there will never be problems. Does anyone know if these entries are automatically put back by XP when you reboot and the system does its normal checking? Or do you just plain lose your CD Drive? |
