screen play troubles..?

sorry new to this, hope I'm doing the right thing
can someone please help?
I have battlefield 2
installed it ok
but when I hit the play icon
an intro (I'm guessing) screen comes up really quick with
battlefield 2 on it
then the screen goes blank and it looks like the game is gonna start like my other games the it just goes back to windows?
Do i need to update the game, just got it though?
Someone was saying it might be video card problems...
my computer is about 4 years old
would it be too old already??
hope not, any help would be great thankyou

Grumpy 24-02-2006 15:43

Yes it would most definately be your video card causing the problem. What card do you have?
Also read the system requirements on the side of the box. (you will need a magnifying glass as the writing is so so tiny!) :)

luvthegames 24-02-2006 16:21

my card info

thanks grumpy
I think its a ASUS V8460 series... does that make sense?

however when I right click on the desktop to see the screen info it
says its a GE Force4 Ti 4200 does that make more sense
I think I downloaded the NVIDIA that came with the game?
cause that is mentioned there too

well do you know if I can update it to run battlefield 2
or am I up for a new card as well?

thanks for you help mate

Grumpy 24-02-2006 17:09

Unfortunately for you Battlefield 2 does not support the GE Force4 Ti 4200.
As far as I remember anyway? You will need a new card to play. :(

luvthegames 24-02-2006 17:22

bugger eh
I don't know if I'm asking to many questions or not......
but could you suggest a good alround card for gaming
and reasonably priced?
thanks for your help mate

scaz 24-02-2006 17:25

There are work-arounds to able you to play with DX8 only cards, use google to find it.

Slon 24-02-2006 17:37

Even if you do get it to play with the workaround, you'll most-likely suffer from poor performance. Recommend new card.

luvthegames 24-02-2006 17:37

ah thats good news
mate I'm new to this sorry
what am I looking for in google? DX8 cards? or work arounds?
can you put it simple for the new guy please
they have downloads for them do they?
thanks again

Grumpy 25-02-2006 06:49

@scaz
Yes you are quite correct in what you say but I will have to totally agree with what 'Slon' says.

@luvthegames
I used Google to do a quick search for 'how to play battlefield 2 with DirectX 8'
This site seems to have some useful info.
They also say the program '3DAnalyze' could be helpful. I dont know as I havent had to use it.
Read the whole thread as they talk about possible problems with Punkbuster as you will be technically using a hack to play!

There were other sites in the Google search but I havent looked at them all, I have given you a starting point though.

Good Luck ;)

luvthegames 25-02-2006 13:20

thanks grumpy
I'll give it go and see how it turns out
I'm not holding my breath though eh
might just have to spring for a new card

luvthegames 25-02-2006 13:58

yeah I just had a good look at that forum
they were saying with the shade hack in
all the colours are all messed up
the tanks are invisible, the ground is white
probably no much fun to play
gonna need a new card I'm thinking
do any other new games have this problem?
does the new star wars one suffer the same problems
or is it just the EA games

DABhand 25-02-2006 19:02

Your Ti Card just isnt good enough, it is not a problem with EA games.

I recomend at least an Nvidia 6200 or higher, or ATI 9800 or higher.

Slon 25-02-2006 19:31

Get a card that is second-generation or older. For example, don't get the 7800 generation, get the 6800 generation for nvidia. You will save lots of money for a comparatively small performance trade off.

luvthegames 25-02-2006 23:13

yeah theres a massive difference in price hey
I just had a quick look on ebay
man massive, like $300 diff

Slon 25-02-2006 23:58

Get a card in the $300-400 range. Not too expensive, not too low in performance.
