Toca Race driver 3 won't work with images

Hi. I bought Toca Race driver 3 today.
(it's out here :D..)

I always make a backup image so the disks don't get scratched or dirty fingers on them.(well..besides those one or two i put on it).
But the game won't start.. it says it can't find the original disk.

could you guys help me out?

after a bit of searching i noticed that there is an illegal release as well..but detaching the IDE cables is not something i wanna do everyday and i kinda think it's a bit harsh.

pls..help me out.

Since the current DVD burners can not burn DVDs in RAW mode, you can not make a 1:1 copy of anything protected With Starforce, Safedisc, Securom, etc. So you have to resort to virtual drives.

As far as I know, there is only one virtual drive NOT blacklisted by the Starforce version used on Toca 3 (v3.7.13), i.e. Daemon Tools 4.03 (although the SF website claims something else).

The only problem left is getting around the general SCSI drive blacklisting. For Safedisc and Securom, you can use free anti-blacklisting tools like CureROM, but Starforce thought it was needed to infiltrare a little deeper in your computer. Versions until 3.4 can be easily circumvented by using Starforce Nightmare, but since v3.5, SF has improved this blacklist by digging even deeper into your OS and hooking several system drivers functions (in v3.7 also your usb drivers), probably causing even more incompatibilities, especially with future Windows versions or other system upgrades.

So how to get around all this crap ? That seems to be hardware dependent: for some system configurations, you do not have to disconnect anything. These are the solutions you should try first (only 1 at a time, of course):
- use Starforce Nightmare to hide the optical drives
- disable your optical drives in the Windows hardware manager
- disable your optical drives in the BIOS

If none of these work, you will have to physically unplug them.

Edit: You can find more info about this on the Daemon Tools forum, nicely explained by NetSoerfer:

Well there a two ways to get around Starforce, some like SCCT need the backup(DVD+-RW) to be run from a DVD-ROM/RW drive in a USB 2 caddie.

Others like King Kong, POP T2T and recently TOCA Race driver 3, can be run in a DVD-ROM/RW drive connected via IDE and again on a DVD+-RW.
Nothing else required, no need to disconnect anything, no need to run anything either, but you will need an Nforce 4 mobo.

I have an nforce 4 mobo.. but still it won't work with an image >_<..
Disabling the drives doesn't seem to work either :(

I never said an image, I said burned to a DVD/RW.
I also said no drives need to be disabled/unplugged as well.

What's the big deal with using images anyway? If it can be backed up to a disk, then your still not using the original.

True..but it would still find the mounting software(Daemon tools) and wil not run the game. not even using anti blacklist software

I'm not using Daemon tools, I'm not using any anti-blacklisting software or anything to hide drives, nothing but the game.

Just pop the disk in the drive and it works.
It must be an RW and if it doesn't work in the drive connected via IDE, then a drive mounted in a USB2 caddie, either way still no hiding or disconnecting.

alright..will try it tonight.. it's a RW..so it wouldn't hurt :D
thx for the help so far

Method using Alcohol, you may need to change speeds depending on your system hardware.

Creating an image.
Click the 'Image Making Wizard' button.
Click in the 'Data Position Measurement' box and select 'High', Next.
Choose your destination and image name then click 'Start', choose 'Maximum' for measuring speed(you may need to select a much lower speed depending on hardware) then 'OK'.

Burning image.
Click the 'Image Burning Wizard' button.
Browse to where the image is, click next.
Now click in the 'Burn "RMPS" to recordable Media' box and select max speed for writing (again you may need to slow it down depending on hardware) then click 'Start'.

I have burned 8X DVD+RW (Ricoh) at 8X and the disk worked.

My system Specs
Nforce 4 mobo
Pioneer 110 connected to IDE
Pioneer 106 connected via USB 2 caddie
Maxtor SATA II HDD
Intel Pentium 840 D
2GB 667 DDRII

Quote:

Insert the RaceDriver3 (keyless) disk into another drive then press retry
when i mount an image and try opening it then.. he checks the disk for about 3 seconds and then gives that same error >_<

sys specs:

Nforce 4 mobo : msi K8n neo-F 4
BENQ DVD DW1640
bunch of Sata hdd's
AMD athlon XP64 3700+ San Diego
1 gig 400Mhz DDR

I tried everything... Disabling the drives through SFN, through VDP, through the BIOS, the damn SF thingy detects my IDE drives as long as they take power. The solution was to unplug them completely, that's the only thing that worked. My MoBo has an Intel chipset, so I guess that all Intel users will have to wait for a crack or unplug their drives... Grrrr!
