AMD vs. Intel speeds

I'm in the process of putting together a new PC. My question is about CPU speeds. All the BIG games always recommend system specs. They always say P4 2.xxx whatever. If I get an AMD 64 4000 would that be faster then a P4 2.4??? Why don't the games also recommend AMD cpu speeds? Thankyou:confused:

Cause Intel speed specs are that what the cpu is at max speed. AMD says, the the cpu is at 3200+ when running but the real ghz is about 2,2 ghz.

They do this because they've always done this
Take the number of your AMD CPU & knock approx 400-500mhz off it to get the equivalant P4 speed. While munsterbunster is correct that they are slower in terms of pure mhz, they have various different tweaks that mean that they run far faster than a P4 per mhz.

?????

So if I was to get the AMD 64 Athlon 4000 2.4 would it be reported that I have just the min. specs as far as processor speed????

AMD's 4000 (2.4 GHz) = Intel's 4GHz CPU speed

Ok

Oh I see! I'm beginning to understand all this. I go to a website that measures your PC speeds and equipment. Then it tells you if your comp. will run the game. So the AMD seems to be the way to go!!
