you probably need a new laser for your ps2.

what kind of media are you using for you backups?

KingSpoon 19-01-2006 15:03

i use verbatim they are the best like i tested and heared, i think its the chip, or probably the cd/dvd drive on the ps2 but its always cold here in germany, one week ago it worked now..... hmmm damn

so someone help pls....

snake2 19-01-2006 15:05

are you using dvd-r or dvd+r?

lufcfan 19-01-2006 16:33

and are they DataLife or DataLife PLUS?

20cobra01 19-01-2006 16:56

When you play the original ps2 games, does the system go to the browser screen first of does it start up the game immedialty (goes straight to the PS2 logo and then game vs the memory card/ disk selection browser screen). If it is going to the browser screen first I would say you have a dirty lazer. you can clean it with a kit or open the PS2 and take the cover off of the DVD drive and swab it with que tip soaked in an alchole/water solution.

Hope this helps

i use dvd- r when i put an original game in then it starts the game without browser menu direct jumps to the game, when i put the backup in he says wrong dvd i also tried to diagnose those dvd, was on menu put the dvd in then press eject, the same red screen, i cleaned yesterday also the laser no matter, sumthin wrong help pls =//// , i use verbatim media and what do u mean with datalife plus and normal datalife ??? ???

lufcfan 20-01-2006 03:34

There are 2 types of Verbatim DVD-R - DataLife and DataLife PLUS. It will say on the packaging which it is.

If it is simply datalife, then that'll be your problem - they suck :)

If they're DataLife PLUS, you shouldn't really have a problem...

Though considering DataLife PLUS are fairly hard to find, i'm betting they're standard DataLife discs - and they are useless, quite frankly :o

KingSpoon 20-01-2006 06:42

nah nah they're plus i looked at the package

Since the originals don't stop at the browser screen before booting, I think it may be chip related. Maybe a lose connection. If it was your laser I think you would have noticed a deteriation in performance over time (sometimes the backups boot, sometimes they don't) rather than having it stop playing backups all at once. I would advise going into the console and checking the connections with an ohm meter or having someone else do it if you are not comfortable opening up your ps2.

how he can play backup movies then?

20cobra01 21-01-2006 17:07

I negleted that fact in your original post. I am trying to think if backup movies will play on unmodded PS2's or not. I never tried it before. I will have to defer to some of the more experineced poster of the board on that.

Sorry,

A stock PS2 will play DVD-R movies.

KingSpoon 23-01-2006 14:27

the thing is all backups are working only not the games ps2 and ps1 i backuped two ps1 games to see if it works nah no response :(

help pls...

spedmetal 23-01-2006 16:11

You dont need a mod chip to play copied DVD movies in a PS2. In fact most any DVD player will play copied DVD movies with out modification. So your PS2 wont play any back-up PS2 or PS1 games? What version is your PS2? You might consider taking it back to the store for an evaluation.
