how do i make a backup copy of GT4 ?

First i have to be honest with you . I don't have a PS2 and the Gran Tourismo 4 is a game that my younger brother has purchased and asked me to make a copy for him ( he owns a PS2 ).I don't realy have experiance copying PS2 games so when i tried to copy GT4 i run onto the following problem : I use the Alcohol 120 to make copies, so i used it to make an image of GT4 .The problem is that when i try to write the image to the disk alcohol 120 can't do that because i have single layer DVD redorder and so i use 4.7Gb disks. When i open the original GT4 disk with windows explorer (right clic on it and select properties) it shows total amount of data 3.09 GB .When i do the same with the image that Alcohol 120 had prodused from the original DVD i get total amound of data 5.27 GB . How do i copy this game on a 4.7 GB disc ? Please help . Any answer will be appreciated . Please try to include as many details as possible .

You'll have to either use a ripkit to take out some data from the game (see Google), or get a dual-layer burner and copy the game to a DVD+DL (Dual Layer DVD+R disc)

Either way, you'll need a chip in that PS2, and if you're going to try the +DL route, you'll need a dual layer burner, and PS2 above V4 with a strong laser to read it - no disc read errors and no browser screen popping up before boot. (see Google for a PS2 Version check tutorial).

Good luck :)

You also may have to patch the iso with the Toxic patcher for it to load with some chips if making a direct DL backup.

lufcfan and Warlock thank you for your guide lines.DL-Recorder is not an option because of the cost.(about 60 euro, almost as the cost of a new original GT4).So following the tip for ripkits i did found Gran Turismo 4 DVD5 Backup Tool v1.01 at www.BackupTools.co.uk a ripkit creatad for GT4(ripkit was created by Sonix). The readme file in this ripkit contains the following lines :

Copy the entire contents of the DVD9 game to your hard drive - including
the second layer (make sure GT4L1.VOL is in the same folder as GT4.VOL).

How do i do that ??? I remind you that i've saved an image in my hard disk using Alcohol 120 and when i open the original GT4 disk with windows explorer (right clic on it and select properties) it shows total amount of data 3.09 GB but when i do the same with the image that Alcohol 120 had prodused from the original DVD i get total amound of data 5.27 GB. So how do i copy both layers in the same folder (GT4L1.VOL and GT4.VOL) ???? I will own a favor to anyone could guide me how to use this ripkit.

Use a program called UltraISO to open up the contents of the ISO image and extract them to a folder on your Hard Drive.

This puts the individual files on your hard drive so you can look at them and manipulate them in Windows Explorer as you normaly would :)

I have the same problem: I can't backup GT4
I followed what you wrote in preceiding posts, so I downloaded both UltraISO and the ripkit.
The problem is that in the ISO image of GT4 there is only a GT4.VOL, not a GT4L1.VOL.
I noticed that if I import in the ripper the file GT4.VOL and press the button "Rebuild", the program generates a file of 17MB size called GT4L1.VOL.

What must I do with this file?

Thanks!
