Because they are protected.

Protections are getting weirder each time, wont be long before they require Retinal Scans to be registered at their servers etc lol, which would be good to stop account stealing etc.

I remember way back in 1986/7 a strange protection which cost more money to the developers, it was called lensloc and you had a little device that would unscramble a coded pic on the screen.

Needless to say it was easily removed, but it goes to show how desperate things were even in the 80's with 8bit computers.

What (8-bit?) platform was this Lensloc for?

Also, with Commodores, many people had problems with their originals, when the weird copy protection failed to authenticate the (original) floppy disk, because the protection key was so much "on the edge" that it couldn't be read properly if your floppy disk drive wasn't aligned properly, the head was even a bit dirty or the disk rotated even only a few percent slower or faster than the standard 300 RPM... Now the technology went even further and got much more complicated so the problems got even weirder!
