Sims 2 Nightlife - Mini Images not working
Ok, this one has me banging my head. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but I'm stumped.
I've got Sims 2 and Sims 2 Nightlife. Both are working fine with the discs, but I work/play on two different computers and try to apply all my games so I don't need the disc. Sims 2 works fine with the mini image, in both Daemon 4.0 and Alcohol 120%. The nightlife expansion pack however won't work at all, in either Daemon or Alcohol. I get the splash screen for about 2 seconds, then it just goes away and nothing happens . . . .or on subsequent tries I get the "Sims 2 Nightlife has encountered a problem and has to shut down" box. If I unmount the image, and put the disc in, the game plays fine again, even with the No CD exe crack that someone (finally) put out for the original Sims 2 game. I thought I caught on a forum somewhere that this was a Windows SP2 issue. If so, anyone have the answer as to how to fix it? Oh, thought I would mention that the mini image for Nightlife works perfectly in both Daemon and Alcohol on one computer, but not on the other . . . and they are both running Windows XP Home SP2 with all current updates. Anyone? Thanks, Big D |
I've the same error....

Sim2 + add on UNI + add on Nitelife all work without dvds, using the mini images here, you can even update the Sims2 with the image instead of swapping to the real dvd and then you can add on the xmas pack.

The error: AppName: sims2ep2.exe AppVer: 1.2.0.312 ModName: ~df394b.tmp ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000c486b |
Well it works for me, my cousin wont let my niece near the games as she is only 9yrs and sister is 2yrs let alone play with the rom tray i installed the games as new 1 at a time, and used daemon tools 3.47 with mini images for all 3 games, then i hide the drives using MS powertools tweaknow so the kids dont mess with them, then i bought her the xmas pack and i added that, it obv dont need cd to use the add on once installed as it detects the Sims2 and accepts, it accepted the mini image as the real dvd for the Sims2 update to add on UNI and Nitelife when both were new.
What im basically saying is, ive ran these games on or around release date without the need for the dvd's, i do however have 3 image drives with the images sitting in them at all times (although hidden) possibly thats the trick. |
If it crashes in ~df394b.tmp, then the mini image is bad.
Maybe you are using the wrong one? |
no that's not the problem, the image is fine.
this error is just a phenomenon of Safedisc with some crappy adds by EA on CD. Without SP2 I was able 2 play all Safedisc games ( Sims2 too). But one day my PC crashed and I couldn't start up anymore. So I decided to reinstall Windows but the CD was scrached and produced CRC errors. Microsoft gave me a new cd with SP2 included and viola, Sims2 doesn't start anymore, never. I also get this error with EA footballmanager06 and NfS:MW Black edition (US 3 CD). But there is a trick. I start the shortcut about 20 times and if I'm lucky, one of these cause the game to start. This doesn't work for Sims2. So I would be really thankfull if anybody can find a way 2 play without CD.:( |
Ahh yes LoedD I beleive I know what crashes you are talking about. My friend had the same problem, and as it turns out M$ released a fix for it. It is somewhere on the M$ website. Good luck finding it tho:rolleyes:

You should be running sp2 anyhow esp if your on the WWW, thats got nothing to do with this issue nor has some MS update, how did i get all 3 games and xmas pack to work ?
|
It is due to the SP2 basic API's that are installed, one causes an error with safedisc.
Update your windows, and look for the safedisc type fix on microsofts site. You may have to go through the genuine advantage check to get it. |

Doesn't work :( |
Again i didnt go on a search party on MS site for some fix, these games run no probs with mini images here, thats all i can add.
|
There exists no safedisc patch from MS cuz the problem only showes up when I try to run the game with an image.
With original, it works. But with image burned on CD with alcohol it again doesn't work. So maybe it's an emulation issue. |
