"SECURITY MODULE" error, what is it?

Hopefully it will get a sticky. Since alot of people are asking.

The Games' Protection is detecting some anti-debugging, anti-protection etc tools.

Like

Sr7Stop
Anti-Blahh
SD4Hide
Anti-Blaxx
Daemon Tools (If not set right)

If you have to use anything to hide DT or Alcohol, like SD4hide etc, then when you use do remember to close it. And any other emulation program even AnyDVD and perhaps CloneDVD (you may need to uninstall this).

Then try again.

Edit: Before I forget thats including from the taskbar, and also close Daemon Tools (after you set all emulation on) and when closing say yes when it asks if you wish to keep emulation running.

A FAQ is currently in the making. (It will be published when it's kind of finished.) I'm going to add this information. Thanks!

[Edit:] Ohhh, could you, please, quote the exact error message? Also, if you have some spare time, can you play around with emulators, hiders and other CD/DVD-related tools, and supply a more exact list of software that bothers SecuROM 7.x?

BarryB 29-11-2005 09:41

Add Starforce Nightmare 1.12 to the list. If it's still open when you run a Securom 7 game you will get this message:

A required security module can not be activated. This program can not be executed.

So if you use SFN to disable your CD/DVD drives make, sure you exit it before running your game.

Joe Forster/STA 29-11-2005 09:56

Okay, gonna be added later. Thanks!

Just include...

AnyDVD to it.
Has nothing to do with circumventing game-protections, but is blacklisted, too.

TippeX 30-11-2005 04:55

anydvd i think does atip hiding, could be the reason, i may be wrong though

Just for the record, I have both these programs installed but I dont let them autostart, I only start them when I need them yet I dont ever see these security messages or any other emulation messages. So I would say it is not necasary to uninstall them, just turn them off, especially AnyDVD. ;)

DABhand 30-11-2005 05:41

CloneDVD yes, but AnyDVD and other emulating/hiding programs can be closed.

Joe Forster/STA 30-11-2005 05:46

Ahhh, so "disable" them means: make them disappear from the tray. Got it! (I hate having lots of programs running, eating resources, and messing into the tray! Like Grumpy, I also manually start them, only when needed...)

DABhand 30-11-2005 05:46

Yeah :)

DABhand 30-11-2005 05:48

Also Daemon Tools works better with different bus names, vendor id, etc.

Bus names can be renamed during installation of DT

Vendor ID etc can be changed, by right click DT on taskbar, goto emulated drive, when new window appears (as if your mounting an image) goto Drive Properties at the bottom and then change all 3 top headings to something else.

BarryB 30-11-2005 06:09

Daemon Tools 4 doesn't need this though, it does it itself.

As a result of installing DT4 on my WinXP SP2 box, SR7Stop and Virtual CD Hide won't work anymore (someone confirm this as per FAQ directions!).

I'd post this in the FAQ Discussion seeing as that's what it's there for, except it won't let me post anything in it, no options to post visible? Also, Starforce Nightmare 1.12 can hide my 2 DVD drives (both on the Secondary channel) and allow Securom 7 and Starforce games to be run mounted in DT4 by just using just the 'Disable ch2' button, again needs confirming by someone else this works for them too.

And a 64bit bersion of DT4 is now available, so FAQ needs altering, all this info applies to Section V, part 1!

Ironically I can post in the actual FAQ thread, just not the FAQ discussion thread?, someone locked the wrong thread methinks!

Again I've never had to change the Bus names for either Daemon 3.47 or Alcohol 120. I have not yet installed Daemon 4 so I can not say the same about DT4? But as Barry points out, I have read that DT4 changes the bus names on install anyway.
I mount all my images using Alcohol but I had to install Daemon 3.47 for one game. I cant remember which one that was though? I will come up with the name of it over the next few days.
I also should add I dont install any Starforce games at all so that is probably why I have not yet needed DT4 or SFN!
I also find SDhide and SR7Stop works, for me, on all the later Safedisc and Securom games so I have yet to need anything else.
And yes, a 64bit bersion of DT4 is now available.
Lastly, this sentence from Dabhand probably should be worded as
"AnyDVD and other emulating/hiding programs must be closed." ;)

Joe Forster/STA 30-11-2005 08:29

Ehm, BarryB, yeah, thanks, I closed the FAQ post so that there can be no replies! :D However, the FAQ discussion thread is in a "no-posting" subforum and I found no place where I can reconfigure it to allow posts to be made. :( Grumpy, any idea?

Thanks for the new information, I'll add them as soon as I can!

[Edit] BarryB, DABhand: Instead of replying to the "FAQ discussion" thread, can you start a new thread in the "PC Games - Frequently Asked Questions" subforum?

BarryB 30-11-2005 16:39

Thanks Joe!

Just need people to verify if SR7Stop.exe and Virtual CD Hide stop working with DT4 installed, and if other people can run Starforce games using SFN 1.12 instead of physically unplugging IDE drives, then it can be added into the FAQ.
