modding question

I have a quick quesiton. I am new to modding and i have 2 questions. What is the hardest part about moddeding an xbox, and 2 what is a dashboard. do you have to use evox? i read on a website that instead of using evox you can use an alternitive dashboard like Avalaunch, Unleash-X, Xbmp or something like that. Last question is what is slayers? i have read about it and i really dont understand it. Is that sort of like evox? I think i can put the mod chip in myself and put the hard drive in but im a little confused about how to format the hard drive. When you put a bios on do you put it on the mod chip or the hard drive. I have xecuter 2 lite. Does that come with a bios or do i have to put one on there. By the way xbox-scene is a very resourceful tool. thanks for all the help.

1. Soldering. If you buy one that is solderless...well..i guess finding the points?
2. It is the application that boots up when you turn on your xbox. The green menu you get is Microsofts dash.

You do not need evox. That is just the first dash to be on the xbox and also happens to be the most simplistic as well, with many features. It supports its own version of game trainers, has function that lock/unlock your HDD, and can format your hard-drive. You can use any dash, most support ftp. I personally am using a hacked version of the MS dashboard.

"Slayers auto-installer" is evolution x, basically. The creaters of evox added scrypt functions for users to add in the configuration file. They can move, copy, and delete files off the HDD. Well, "Slayer" took these and created an image which you burn to a disk. The image contains various tools that, using the scrypt functions, will copy to your hard-drive. It has everything you need.

The bios on the chip is probably the free, non ms-hacked bios image. You need to flash the chip with a different bios image. After the chip is installed, you can do it via a disk or ftp (network connection). It isn't really hard at all.

Upgrading the HDD can be tricky, especially if you have already gone on xbox live and plan on doing so in the future with that xbox. It just involves backing up your current hard-drive files, formatting and partitioning the new harddrive, installing the files you backed up onto the new drive, and locking it again. All this can be done with evox. As for using it with xbox live...you will need to look into that because it requires much more work. I have never personally done it nor had the need to.

ok im a little confused. what is the diffrence betweeen the hacked evox bios and the evox dashboard. is the hack bios for the mod chip? or is it for the hard drive? and what does slayers do? is that the dashboard or hacked bios.

Once you install your mod chip and new 90 gig hard drive. what is the next step? do i have to flash my xecuter 2 lite mod chip or format the hard drive? Will slayers format the hard drive? What program formats the hard drive?

The primary thing i want to do on my modded xbox is back up my games.

thanks for all the help

Did you read my post? I stated what slayers was and what tool you use to format the HDD. Evolution X has commands you can send via ftp to format the HDD. Slayers has options that will do it for you (i believe). It is a menu app that you load up and select what you want to do.

Anyways, the evox bios has nothing to do with the dashboard other than the fact that they were created by the same droup. The bios is put onto the modchip, the dashboard is put onto the hard-drive. The bios is what lets you load unsigned code, or apps that MS did not approve. The dashboard is the menu you get when you turn on your xbox. I am pretty sure that slayers will format the Hard-drive.

On a side note, I would not use the evox bios as they are old. What version of the x2 lite modchip do you have?

1. Install modchip
2. flash bios (i prefer ftp)

3. burn evox (or slayers) to a disk and load it up
4. ftp to the dashboard and backup the C and E drive to your PC.
5. use the option in evox (or slayers) to unlock your hdd
6. power off and swap HDD's
7. load evox and format via ftp or use slayers and just choose the menu option to do it
8. reboot and ftp to the dash.
9. send back the C and E drive that you backed up
