Adware blocker: be your own
I was doing a netstat -a in the cmd to see if any "hidden" connections were being resolved. Well, it turns out that I had quite a few actually. More than I should.
So, I went online to see where they were coming from, since no spyware/adware blockers were giving errors. I read a message about a mySQL host file being infected with spyware connections. I opened it, and behold, dozens of unknown connection and the ip connection counterparts. I went searching some more because after deleting, some connections were still being resolved. Well, I stumbled here: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm Basically, it is a premade host file that blocks many unwanted spyware connections by "tricking" the OS to go to your localhost. It states how you can add in your own connections for ANY ip/site you want to block. I suggest that you know about it in case you need to block some outgoing connections lol. So, for example, if I wanted to block filetarget.com lol. Also, is a very sly way to block your kids from going to a website, without setting any browser restrictions. |
Sweet stuff. Hope my dad doesnt find out. He once tried to lock me out of my computer when I had bad grades lol. All I did was get Knoppix from a friend, booted it up, copied the windows SAM file to a USB, and cracked it at my friends house. Since then, my dad just took away my monitor lol :P
