PS2 Slim Mod
Hey guys... I'm brand new to the whole PS2 scene. I recently purchased a new PS2 (slim) and am wanting to burn backups. I went to modchip.com and found this kit that is supposed to work with the new PS2 slim system. Here's the link:
http://www.modchip.com/ps2/v12slimkit.php What do you guys think and/or suggest? I'm not totally technological stupid, but I'm not Einstein... is this something I can handle? Either respond on this or you can AIM me on MCSpartan05. Any help would be great... I'm also curious on how to burn these PS2 games... but hopefully that'll be easier because I'm pretty good with computers... Thanks again! |
I would save my money and get a matrix infinity along with HD connect. The swap disc have issues with some games and are not nearly as reliable as a modchip.
|
I'm specifically looking for a non-solder chip. Although the Matrix Infinity looks like a good choice. Any other suggestions? Thanks so much.
|
There are no non solder chips for slim PS2. The only one that comes close is the DMS EZI chip. It uses a clip to attach itself to the chip on the PS2 MB. It is also known for bending chip legs thus ruining the console. There's just no substitute for a well installed infinity :D
|
You mention some games... I'm using my PS2 for mainly sports games... any problems apparent?
|
We get people here all the time with different Games that require patching or just wont load with this setup. Most of the games are listed at www.swapmagicfix.com. If this is the route you want to go then i wish you the best but i know for a fact you will have less problems with a real modchip. Anyway good luck with it, Maybe lufcfan or someone else will have something to add.

It appears there are a few sports games that do not work. However, I'm willing to try this out. Thanks for everyone's help and if and when I get it working, I'll be more than happy to let everyone know my results!

Honestly mate, save your cash as you'll only want a real mod such as an Infinity once you've bought that - and then you'll be pretty p*ssed off as it's cost you $x.xx and it didn't work properly :(
(Seems its another one fallen prey to the myths and seeming wonders *cough* of the Swap Magic discs  ) |
I would be more than willing to buy this Infinity chip because as you note, is seems more reliable. However... I have no soldering capabilities or skills whatsoever. Got any suggestions?
|
Yeah - find a Pro to supply and install your chip. I see you're in the States, so the best place to send your console is: www.norcalmods.com - run by our good friend Spedmetal. PM him or see his site - i'm sure he'd happily hook you up - and he has some good prices too :)

I think I found someone in my small college hicktown that has the ability to solder. I have talked to his wife and she said he can do that. However, I would like to get the installation instructions for him. I was checking modchip.com and they had pictures, but from what I could tell, they weren't much help. Any suggestions from people who have soldered their own chip on how to install this Infinity chip?
|
Be careful, dont let just anyone try to install the chip. The install pictures you see are actually quite larger than the install points on the MB are. I would first disassemble the console and look at the MB. If he has any doubt at all i would suggest you reassemble the console and send it to Spedmetal at www.norcalmods.com.

Okay... to make sure I know what I'm getting him into... basically you solder the correct wires connecting the correct letters to eachother. I'm assuming the wires come with the chip? Also, what size is the chip that I'd be getting with the Infinity? Thanks for any help.
|
I'll follow what the other users are recommending, the pictures are enlarge so it seems easy to install... When I received the chip I've ordered.. it's way smaller than I expected :) (real small) FYI :)
