Hard Drive Crash

HELP!!!!

My hard drive has started to freeze alot lately. It makes a clicking sound in the middle of a game and freezes up.

Any idea what could be causing this and how i can stop it??

Its been working fine now for over a year

My guess is that it is dying on you... :(
So I would strongly recommend that you instantly backup everything thats on it ASAP. FTP if to your computer and save it.

If you bought the HDD less than 1 year ago go change it on the warranty.

It is never fun when HDD's crashes... :(

Yeah that was my guess too. Looks like I'll have to pay a visit to eBay!!!!

It wouldnt be the IDE cable would it because when i mess around with that it works again. (For awhile anyway!!)

Could be... Try changing the IDE cable with a new one. You might be unlucky and get a cable that can not be inverted so you might have to try a few times before you find one that works.
With inverted I mean that you must use the "wrong" side to the hdd. The side that usually goes onto the motherboard in a PC. Some cables won't handle this for some strange reason.

It could also be so that your HDD is still a bit away from dying and therefore each time you power down the HDD gets cool enough again to work.

Had same pro?
Try nipping up the power conectors in the molex connector?
Worked for me

I had the same problem with my IBM 60GB drive in my computer. Lasted me like 5 years. When it starts to make the clicking sound, time to get a new one. (I know from persanol experience.)
