Battlefield 2 - Unlocks
 

Dear all:

I was wondering if there is a way to unlock the BF2 weapons, not to cheat, but just to play with them. I have unlocked one weapon so far (through normal play), the special forces weapon, but in a way I regret unlocking it as I would have liked to try out some others first to see which I like most. Is there a way to do this?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

There are several unranked servers that features Global Unlocks that you can play on.

Simply find them and play away. Any ranked server will NOT have Global Unlocks as that would be against EA and their demands.

That's cool. no offline solutions? It's no big deal. I just wanted to experiment and play with them.

On another note, what are the best weapons to unlock?

I do not know if there is any offline alternative... But maybe there is one out there.

Weapons to unlock are as follows:
Sniper: M95 (heavy Sniper rifle, more damage)
Special Forces: G36C (short version of the G36 automatic rifle, very good accuracy, more damage)
Assault: G3 (the G3 automatic rifle, no grenade launcher, more damage)
Support: PKM (heavy support weapon, slower rate of fire, more damage)
Medic: L85A1 (slight zoom, more damage, about the same accuracy)
Engineer: Jackhammer mk3A1 (great at close-range combat)
Anti-Tank: DAO-12 (like the jackhammer great at close-range combat)

I have so far unlocked the PKM and the L85A1, I have also tested all but the Jackhammer... Will soon get my 3rd unlock. :p

I've only unlocked the L85A1.
Now i have ~3500 Points. When can i unlock the next one?
I prefer the G36C for the next unlock, but some friends mean the PKM is the ultimate weapon.

Hey Thx for the info. Of the weapons you have unlocked so far, which do you like the best?

I like the weapon I unlocked, the G36, but you go from an acog site (with point of light) to an iron site. I was disappointed with that. I would have thought the Upgrade would keep the cool site, and upgrade the weapon!

I am looking for the most damage for longer distances. I would like to see how the upgrade for the sniper rifle does. The 50 cal sniper rifle seems like a one kill shot rifle. I am fairly disappointed with the base sniper. Hard to kill at distance, you almost have to be close up to one shot kill, and if that is the case then I would just go with the G36. Almost just as good.

I am not sure how many points I have, but I am about at the same level as you GLH! :) How do the unlocks go? What are the points or ranks you must acheive to get them?? Seems like getting to full corporal is going slow, just about half way there and it seems to be taking forever.

The first weapon-unlock is at 1000 points.

Yeah, but how does it go after that.

First unlock: 1000
Second unlock: 10500
Third unlock: 25200
Fourth: more... :p

About what weapons to unlock...
The G36C is a really good weapon to unlock, but I do not feel that it gives that awfully much to the SF class.
The PKM as really a weapon to unlock if you are playing as support a lot, it will wipe out anyone with M249 or the RPK-74. Too bad all support weapons are so inaccurate.
The L85A1 is absolutely one of the best unlocks if one is playing a lot as medic. That was my first unlock and I am still playing as a medic mostly.

The M95 sniper is a one shot-one kill weapon if you hit the head but generally sniper takes a lot of training before you can kill good with it.

Oh btw I have 23461points (thats about 94% of the required to get Sergeant).

WOW! I only have 3700 points! DO I have any HOPE at all! LOL That is a lot of points to get. I thought I played a lot too! I am a pretty good shot with sniper rifle, I always find sniper hard to do if there is any lag what so ever in the server. Almost impossible to get kills.

A small update here, just read that the points required for the different ranks will be modified in the next patch. The one that was supposed to be out August (yes thats about 2 weeks ago)...
The latest unofficial date is 3rd october... :(

That blows. That's all I need is to have more points to make between levels. I think they should make more levels or a way to buy weapon unlocks. Buy within the game that is. But maybe that is more than they want to deal with.

I tried to find a server that unlocks all weapons, but I didn't find any. I can set up a server to allow unlocks that are earned on ranked servers but that is all I can figure out. Short of tampering with the code, which I would never do, I don't think there is a way to play with the unlocked weapons.

Also, on another note, anyone hear about the add on due out this fall (November 2nd, to be exact.)?? I know it is a special forces add on, but that is about it. Aparently, we will be able to repel out of choppers, but that is all I know. Anyone have a link that describes it or knows what will be included in the add on??

p.s. Anyone know how to change your name in the game? to show a clan initials or something? If I join a clan I would hate to have to change start over to change my initials. Know what I mean??!! :)

The namechange feature will be added in the next update that is due to october. I think that they will LOWER the requirements for ranks and not make them higher, that was what I meant... :p

Battlefield: Special Forces is an expansion pack that will be released sometime in December all over the world. As the name suggest there will be focus on Special Forces in the game, meaning to attack chopper, no big tanks only jeeps, buggys and perhaps a transport chopper or two.
New classes, 6 different armies or something like that, grapling hook, zip-line, nightvision and teargas will also be added to the game.
