http://www.direct2drive.com/

One site that I know.

What happens when you buy it, download it, burn it, and then it says its not the original SecureRom protected CD ? LOL !

Because if this was not the case, then these "downloadable games" are shareable and the whole SecureRom kingdom comes crashing down :p

Downloadable games usually do not have a ISO protection ;)

They use a protection based on activation: Starforce ProActive, Macrovision FlexNet, Trymedia ActiveMark, etc.

I don't think downoadable games have a copyprotection like normal games because it would be useless to protect a file you download with a copy protection for games ??

That's strange:

Splinter Cell 3 downloadable
I had a look at direct2drive and Splinter Cell 3 was offered there...?
Is it possible to get the game from there, take all the files which are normally protected by SF3 (of the DVD you buy in a shop) and replace them ?!
This could maybe work ?!
I'm not sure but maybe the files of the game are the same as the ones you have on your hd after you installed the direct2drive SC3 version !

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I know it was a stupid idea :-P

@Muji
If I remember correctly, using the D2D files for the Retail DVD/CD wont work. I am sure I read that somewhere here? And I am sure you only get a limited amount of times you can install the D2D games? 4 installs I think it is? So that stops people from sharing the game as that only robs the buyer of his/her install limits. ;)

Almost all of them have a combination of a Hardware code and online activation.

Grumpy 08-08-2005 09:04

Personally I would prefer the 'online activation' instead of Starforce. As a legit purchaser of games the Hardware Code and Online Activation is not a problem for me but Starforce causes me heaps of grief!

The-S-Owl 08-08-2005 10:55

Then do not bother buying games from Direct-2-Drive as they have both activation AND Starforce :p

I fully agree to you, grumpy ! HalfLife 2 activation was crap but it is better then SF protected games ;)
