Starship Creator Warp 2 - Defective disc

I just bought Star Trek: Starship Creator Warp 2, and after installing (which works fine) it won't run. It keeps asking me to insert the SC disc (which is already in) and refuses to recognise it.

Anyone know how to sort this out, or a NoCD crack I can use?

Thanks for any replies.

You will need to contact your game publisher if your original disk doesn't work.
However, one thing to try first is if you have multiple CD/DVD drives, to put the disk into the one with the first drive letter (IE. If you have two drives, D & E, then put the disk in drive E)

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A GENERAL GAME SUPPORT FORUM!!!

Yes, I know; I'm trying to find a NoCD crack, in the hopes that I can simply shunt all the data on the CD over to the HDD and run it without having to get the blasted disc to work.

I've got the programme itself running now (using my old SC1 disc), but can't access any of the new ships - which of course are stored on the Warp 2 disc.

EDIT: I tried contacting the publisher, by the way. Simon And Schuster Interactive - they've gone out of the software business, and the support folks they have left say Warp 2 doesn't support Win XP. But the older versions work in XP, which I find rather odd.

Have you tried compatibility mode (Right-click on exe, select properties and then compatability, and set to Win98.)?
This might fix it.

Was SCW2 published by microprose by anychance?

If so their cd protection doesnt work at all well with latest hardware.

No, Simon and Schuster. Don't know if Microprose had anything to do with it.

Their tech support say it won't work on XP (nice of them not to mention that on the specs), but the old version does. Weird.

Yeah I remember that S&S did some star trek games, but microprose did some also during the same time like Birth of the Federation and Klingon Academy, etc

Ill see if I can shed some light on this :)

I found out so far it works with XP home and NOT XP Pro. Ill see if I find more about it, perhaps a patch.

Edit: Missed out the word NOT oops :\

Yeah, Microprose's tended to be more games, while S&S tended more towards moderately interactive, fairly sedate things like the Omnipedia, "Interactive" Technical Manual, things like that.

Cheers - much appreciated!

Unfortunately no patch from either S&S or homemade to work with XP.

Sorry buddy.

But try compatability mode on Windows 2000 and not 98/Me

Cheers, will try that.
