Cant play Footy Manager 2005 online, why?
 

Ive got an un-original disc of the game Football manager and have recently downloaded the latest patch/update for the game. Ive never attempted to play online before until recently and cant connect with my mates game no matter what we try. This is what ive done:

Ok, we've got as far as my mate has started a new network game and has ticked the box as 'run as server'. hes given me his IP address and I have entered in these details in the 'join other server' option in the bottom right option. once i have clicked on this and added his IP address it has shown his IP details in the box up the top. I then click on this and it is now just sitting there with the little football load icon. It isnt moving any further. We have tried this with all firewalls etc turned off. We have also tried it the other way round with me being the host, still no luck.

Is it not working becoz Ive downloaded a patch? Or is it becoz im not using the original disc?

Please help as soon as possible people! Thanks

thats correct, i meant the back-up of my original game, its not illegal to use a copy of the game so long as u own the original, i dont like to use my original to keep it in imaculate condition. sorry for the mix up, not a good start for me is it.

So, back to my question of help please........

Question to original poster, why havent you tried it with your original?

A normal person would do this first, before asking your questions.

Therefor your telling porky pies and you dont own the game.

This is a thread on help I need from people who may know what my problem is and how to resolve it, not an arguement on orginals etc.

Me and my mate both got the same latest patch and installed it but it still doesnt work

Then the best place to get the necessary help is with the developer or publisher.

Since they will be able to give more help on that subject.

I have contacted them, just waiting on a reply. no harm in trying to find out if any other people have experienced the same problem

Now correct me if im wrong, here is how I see the situation.


You and your mate go out shopping, your mate buys the game, you say to mate "Hey mate, wouldnt it be cool if we could play each other, to see me win as ultimate manager". Your mate says "Your arse, ill be better than you".

He makes copy, he gives to you, you get no-cd cause its asking for cd all the time.

You try to play each other online, but cause the game has to go through the game server first, it notices you aint using the correct exe file and therefore stops access.

How much did I get right?

Approximately 0.6%, and thats the bit about me calling my mate 'mate'
