Surreal 64 Xbox Emulator
Has anyone had any luck with this emu ?
|
no :(
Generally, I try to stay away from psx and n64 emulation on the xbox. N64 developement is slow, if it is still being developed at all. Most games don't run well at all. |
Surreal 64 works great for me... THe only bugs I encounter sometimes is that it won't play any roms... But a few restart sometimes a reinstall will fix it...
Go get Surreal 64 XXX (being developed by freaky dave and some other guy), it works great and gets updated pretty often. Other than that Surreal 64 FDB_V4 is the best N64 emu right now. That one was made by Freaky Dave too. Can handle almost every game for me so I like it. |
Tried Surreal64 XXX with the same result. Games are either choppy or dont play at all. All that happened was that the look of the emulator changed for me. Should I have to go in and redo the settings in the TData folder ? Or is it possible that I got a bad rom ? They all have the good rom symbol beside them, but still...
|
Well for me many roms works great and without any problems at all.
Conker has some problems but that is because of limitations in the emu... Still 90% of my roms works pretty well. |
Yeah. Conker is one that I cant get to work. The others are Killer Instinct Gold in which the framerate is horrible (it just loads layer upon layer instead of fading away) and Resident Evil 2. RE2 wont load with any emu and Starfox 64 loads but its framerate is way too fast. The only one that I have had luck with is Zelda 64. Should I try some new or different roms ? Or should I try the other version of Surreal?
Thanks |
u have to do sometihn with the e drive to get surreal to really work
but yea i wanted conker so bad till the new game came out... which is the old game.. but redone with better graphics i dunno if im happy or sad abotu that i wanted a new one but i love the old one so ow ell |
I remember the commercials for that game, they were hilarious.
|
Yeah, Conker was great, although I never finished it. I am now trying the FDB release of Surreal64 and if this dont work then I give up. I am already having trouble with this one working (something about the surreal.ini file in the tdata folder). Its not worth all of this trouble just to play a few games imo. Thanks to all who helped.

Ok, I have come to the conclusion that XBox N64 Emulators just do not work. I have tried every release that there currently is and I am only able to run 1 out of 10 games on each one with the same sloppy result. I guess I have to keep in mind that the XBox can only handle so much and just keep hoping that they will make a decent Emulator someday. I have even tried different roms and they all do the same thing, load to a black screen. Besides, with Surreal I never know which Emu to try. I end up trying them all and none of them work. The only game I have gotten to work on it is Zelda OoT, and it plays half-way decent. TO those who actually got it working I ask you, how ? I have tried everything. Any feedback is appreciated.

Well I guess it is kinda hope for the best when installing an emulator (N64 atleast). For me Surreal64 FDBv4 worked like a charm as soon as I edited the Surreal.ini file to have the right paths. Then I simply played the games.
Try clearing your cache folders too because if you have started a Surreal emu before the ini file will be saved and read from there instead of from the folder. So make sure the new ini file is always loaded by either clearing the whole cache or find the specific folder. |
Thanks for the info. But by Cache folders do you mean the ones in the TDATA folder ? Because I deleted the folder that the Emulators surreal.ini file was in, it was something like "A64" or something or other. Here is another question: Do you know the roms that have certain Versions beside them ?(v1.0, v2.0)ect? Well does it matter which one that I use ? Because I got Killer Instinct Gold and it had like 10 versions within the folder. But please tell me which cache folders to clear and I will try that if I havent already.
Thanks again. |
I can't remember wich cache folder straight from the head, but as soon as I get my xbox back I'll take a look at it... Borrowed it to a friend for a while... Should get it back at friday.
When it comes to versions I have no idea if it will make any difference.. :-\ |
What extensions should the N64 roms have?? I've one with .v64 is it ok??
|
Yeah, all extensions should be fine. I have used V64, Vz64 and many others.
