Basic FTP network question

I have looked through the FAQS, and couldn't find the answer.

When i try and connect my xbox to my pc via crossover cable, winxp tries to "auto connect" and try and obtain the network adress. So, whenever i try and use flashfxp (ftp program) it says no host available. Because the ethernet connection is already being used by windows, because network connection says "limited or no connectivity." What do i do to disable this?

I used to have it work about 1 year ago on a different PC, so i know how to do it, but i've never run into a problem like this. HELP!! I disabled my wireless network, so that won't interfere? Am i missing something really basic?

Try to use the Internet Explorer to connect. Type: ftp://xbox:[email protected]
In case of password xbox and IP 192.168.0.2

You will have to set your PC and your XBOX to static IP. set your PC to:

IP- 192.168.0.1
Subnet- 255.255.255.0

Set your xbox to:

IP- 192.168.0.2
Subnet- 255.255.255.0

That should get you running.

for XP;

Just change the IP on the xbox and don't worry about the winxp IP. In the dashboard that you are using: For evox: go to options and chage the IP to static and then change the last digit to something else like 192.168.0.101 or something completly different from the windows xp one. For any other dash: Same thing.

You have to worry about it. WinXP is set to automatic by default, meaning it is assigned. If you are not connected to the router or the internet and are connected to the xbox directly, you will not get an IP. So, you have to make it static in order for it to assign itself one.
