Firmware the only answer?
 

I have a Memorex true 8x dvd+/-rw drive that does not like to read certain blank media (specifically TDK 8x DVD-R's) I updated the firmware and the problem persists. So now I wonder is there another possible fix?

It may be that your drive just doesnt burn that media well. Some drives manufacterers only make firmware for certain brands of media.
