Deus Ex: Invisible War Optimizations

I bought DE2 not to long ago, but I can't seem to get it to run smoothly despite updating to the most recent patch and having a rather decent rig. I was told by a friend that there is an .exe edit that can be done to optimize it for the pc, and I wanted to know if anyone knew of this or had other suggestions. I realize the port was a piss poor straight port of the XBox version, and that's part of the problem.

My current rig is: Athalon Barton 2500+(1.84ghz)
1 gig of Corsair DDR budget RAM
Radeon 9200 pro 128 mb on board RAM

I know it's not the meanest beast out there, but hell, I can run HL2 no problem, Far Cry decently, WoW, all that good ****. Anyway, thanks for any help you guys can provide.

As long as you have that 9200, your rig won't run DX2 well. If you want your rig to advance to the mid-high range PC status, you should buy a X800 or a 6800GT.

definately! that 9200 is the bottleneck.

Cool. Thanks for the info. When I get enough scratch I'll upgrade to a 9800 pro.

Don't upgrade to the 9800Pro. DX2 still doesn't run well. I know because I had a 9800Pro overclocked to 460mhz for the core and 386mhz for the memory.

If you want to run DX2 smoothly, I recommend a 6800GT-class videocard.

Only when I upgraded to my 6800GT, did DX2 run smoothly with all in-game settings maxed out at 1280x1024.

The 6800GT's are still kind of expensive so perhaps you can buy a X800XL 256mb instead. It doesn't have Shader Model 3.0 support but at least it's cheaper.

Thats funny, I ran DX2 fine on my old plain 9600. The 9800pro should be fine unless there is an issue with that card specifically.

I should've noted that the term "fine" is subjective. For me, "fine" is running with all in-game settings high with 4xAA, 8xAF and at 1280x1024. :D A 9800 Pro won't be able to play at these settings in a "fine" manner much less a 9600.

Although its not spectacular you can also set the game to 16bit instead of 32bit. This gives a huge performance boost.
