HDD upgrade

Hi all. I've been out the scene for awhile now but I just wanted to know if it is possible to install a 250 gig hard drive into an xbox. A mate of mine wants me to mod his box and upgrade the hdd and he bought a 250 gig seagate for the job. Last I knew, 200 was the largest one you could install. His xbox is an early model. Not sure what version exactly but it is definitely not a 1.6. Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated.

Yes, it should be fine. Just make sure you get the right bios. If he is going to use xbox live, then that is another story.

Thanks for the reply Quall. Great news. Can you recommend a suitable bios, bearing in mind that his xbox is a version 1 to 1.5?

x2_4981, or if you have a 512k chip, get the newest x2 bios for the 1.0-1.5 xbox's (x2_5031_vOLD_512k.bin). I don't think you need to get the G-drive hacked bios.

nah
get the .06, because 250 is the cut off for needing a g drive
<=250 needs only F
>250 needs f and g
i have a 250.. its sweetness
use slayers to format it easily

From what I've read and heard the .06 bios can only handle disks up to 137gb and after that the .67 bios is needed...
of course I could be wrong, but better safe than sorry.

So I say go for the .67 bios.

If you go with a Xenium Ice, you can use the integrated tools to do the hard drive upgrade. It's a simple step by step process that anyone could accomplish very easily. It's not the cheapest chip, but not the most expensive either.

The features/dollar make this the only choice for me. With the built in OS, it is virtually fool proof. Bad BIOS flash, no problem. Boot to the OS and flash in a new one. Need to get set up with a dash, no problem. It has built in ftp and SMB support. Add your files to your drive and your good to go. No need for slayers or any other installer disk.

I'm no pro, but I've done about 10 with zero problems so far. Get the Xenium along with the latest X2 BIOS (5031) and you'll be all set for any size drive you want to add.

Thanks for the replies guys. The Xenium Ice sounds like a great chip, Jailer, and would be a consideration if it were my xbox I was chipping. However, my mate isn't interested in all the features that chip offers so the cheapmod I have for him will do the job just fine.
I was under the same assumption you are, Kosmiq, that the .67 would be the bios I need but who are we to question Ax's proven wisdom and knowledge :p
Besides, he has a 250 gig hdd and the .06 bios listed in his goodies so it must work.
By the way, I haven't been around the forums for a while, how's life as a moderator treating you Ax? You drunk with all your new found power ;)
